My articles showcase lesser-known destinations and delightful boutique hotels that aren’t yet widely popular, which leads me to one of my preferred undiscovered spots.

When winter envelops Paris and daylight fades shortly after lunch, I yearn to escape to a place still basking in sunshine. A few years back, I uncovered the ideal remedy for the winter gloom in Paris: Lanzarote, a sunny island within the Canary Islands that stands as one of the warmest winter getaways in Europe. Many travelers visit the island for its striking volcanic scenery, picturesque hiking paths, beautiful beaches, excellent surfing, and locally produced, mineral-rich wines. What surprised me the most about Lanzarote was its unexpected vibrancy. Besides the breathtaking nature, the island thrives with art and culture, largely thanks to the visionary architect César Manrique. He created a series of remarkable projects that harmoniously merge architecture with Lanzarote's volcanic features, and his legacy continues to define the island today.

You can tour his former studio and home in Haría to experience his bold, organic designs firsthand; enjoy sweeping coastal vistas from the Mirador del Río; explore the sculptural cacti at Jardín de Cactus; and get lost in the winding Lagomar Museum, which was carved from volcanic rock. Even dining at the fiery Restaurant El Diablo, situated above a volcanic vent, or visiting the artisan ceramics at Eguzkine captures the island's eclectic spirit. With an assortment of design-centric boutique hotels sprinkled across Lanzarote, you’ll find a winter getaway that offers much more than initially anticipated. Below, I’m sharing my favorite boutique accommodations and the top seven must-see attractions to visit in Lanzarote this winter. Additionally, see what I packed and actually wore during my trip.

      **Favorite Stays in Lanzarote**

      **Buenavista Lanzarote Country Suites**

Lanzarote is dotted with delightful boutique hotels that exude personality and charm, providing a refreshing alternative to the larger, tourist-heavy resorts in the southern region of the island. A notable choice is Buenavista Lanzarote Country Suites, a design ecolodge situated in the volcanic terrain between Timanfaya National Park and La Geria. This intimate getaway offers five minimalist suites with expansive windows showcasing stunning vineyard and volcanic views. The property is also a sanctuary for art and nature lovers, emphasizing sustainability and local craftsmanship.

      **Casa de las Flores**

Another favorite is Casa de las Flores, a chic boutique hotel set in the historic town of Teguise. Occupying a beautifully restored 18th-century mansion, it features five art-filled rooms, a private pool, and a sun terrace. The owners' warmth and the cozy breakfasts served in the inner courtyard enhance its intimate atmosphere. Its central position makes it an excellent base for exploring the island, and Famara Beach is just a short drive away.

      **Hotel César Lanzarote**

On my next trip, I'm eager to visit the recently opened Hotel César Lanzarote, a stylish adults-only getaway in the volcanic hills of La Geria. Previously owned by Manrique’s family and later converted from a girls' school into a boutique hotel with 20 rooms, each featuring ocean or volcano views, many with private terraces. Amenities include a freeform infinity pool, a spa, a restaurant serving locally sourced cuisine, and elements of sustainable design.

      **Arts and Culture in Lanzarote**

      **César Manrique Foundation**

Nestled in the artist's former residence and studio, the César Manrique Foundation in Tahíche is one of Lanzarote's most significant cultural landmarks. Constructed on a lava field, the house ingeniously integrates five natural volcanic bubbles into its architecture, blending art, structure, and nature in Manrique’s unique style. The foundation upholds his legacy by displaying his artwork alongside rotating exhibitions, offering visitors a close look at his creative vision and commitment to environmental balance.

**César Manrique House Museum in Haría**

Tucked among palm trees in the serene village of Haría, the César Manrique House Museum served as the artist's last home and studio. In contrast to his more modern residence in Tahíche, this house presents a softer, personal side of Manrique, featuring traditional Canarian architecture, rustic elements, and the tranquil ambiance of his later years. Visitors can explore his preserved living quarters, workshop, and lush gardens, gaining an intimate understanding of the
