A few years back, I uncovered the ideal remedy for the winter gloom in Paris: Lanzarote, a sunny island within the Canary Islands that stands as one of the warmest winter getaways in Europe. Many travelers visit the island for its striking volcanic scenery, picturesque hiking paths, beautiful beaches, excellent surfing, and locally produced, mineral-rich wines. What surprised me the most about Lanzarote was its unexpected vibrancy. Besides the breathtaking nature, the island thrives with art and culture, largely thanks to the visionary architect César Manrique. He created a series of remarkable projects that harmoniously merge architecture with Lanzarote's volcanic features, and his legacy continues to define the island today.

      You can tour his former studio and home in Haría to experience his bold, organic designs firsthand; enjoy sweeping coastal vistas from the Mirador del Río; explore the sculptural cacti at Jardín de Cactus; and get lost in the winding Lagomar Museum, which was carved from volcanic rock. Even dining at the fiery Restaurant El Diablo, situated above a volcanic vent, or visiting the artisan ceramics at Eguzkine captures the island's eclectic spirit.
