I'm a stylist who travels frequently—this is what I prefer to wear after a long journey.
Karla Welch serves as an editor in residence at Who What Wear and is also one of Hollywood's most influential stylists, working with clients like Olivia Wilde, Tracee Ellis Ross, Sarah Paulson, and Tessa Thompson. She is the founder of The Period Company and xKarla. Recently, I've had a whirlwind of activity. After returning from Paris Fashion Week, I immediately jumped into fittings for the London Film Festival while also preparing for the Academy Museum Gala. However, there's been plenty of discussion about fashion since the month of September, so I want to switch gears and share what I choose to wear at home when I relax on the couch watching sports on a Friday night. I want to share this because I've realized that everything I'm wearing right now is something I truly love, and each piece is essential to my personal style. Additionally, everything is from female-owned small businesses. Keep reading as I share the details of my favorite outfit for unwinding at home after a hectic week of work, including my travels to Paris and elsewhere.
**Michael Stars The Karla Tee**
First, I’m wearing my ideal white T-shirt that I created in partnership with Michael Stars this year. Many of you may know me for my xKarla T-shirts, which were fantastic, and I produced another one this year. Let me tell you—it's truly excellent. Priced at $48, all proceeds go to The Period Abundance Foundation, which aims to supply sustainable period products to those in need. Michael Stars is a wonderful Los Angeles-based brand that has been around for a long time. They did a fantastic job with my T-shirts. I wear them almost daily, and I wore them a lot in Paris, where everyone kept asking, "Where did you get that T-shirt?"
**BAA Sweatpants**
Next, I'm wearing the best sweatpants ever, made by BAA, another Los Angeles-based brand. They resemble the perfect gray sweatpants that a boy in the '80s, perhaps one from Ferris Bueller's Day Off whom you had a crush on, would wear. They are the sweatpants of your editorial dreams. I wear them for travel, as soon as I get home from work, and throughout the weekend. Sometimes, I even pair them with my white T-shirt and a blazer along with some stylish shoes. It creates a nicely dressed-down yet spontaneous look that somehow works. I adore them. They also offer sweatshorts—both short and long—and they are absolutely perfect (and reasonably priced). The brand's sweatshirts are great too, but for me, it’s all about the sweatpants.
**Comme Si Sport Socks**
On my feet, I have what I consider little luxuries—socks from Comme Si, a New York City-based brand that produces in Italy. I’m thoroughly enamored with all their socks, especially their new sporty designs. The colors they offer are fantastic. They are among the most expensive socks I’ve ever owned, but they feel incredible—like a treat. I even buy them as gifts for others. The initial response is often, "Oh, thanks for the socks," followed by, "Oh my God, I'm obsessed with these."
**The Period Company Thong**
Underneath, I should mention that I’m currently on my period, wearing something from my own line, which is, of course, female-founded. It’s called The Period Company, and I’m in our remarkable Sporty Stretch period underwear. As someone who has been menstruating for about 30 years, I must say this is the best way to manage a period. It’s truly changed my life.
