Many individuals would hesitate at the thought of a full crew arriving at their home with cameras, microphones, and various lights. However, Angela Scanlon is not one of them. The Irish broadcaster, author, and podcaster, recognized for her hosting roles on the BBC and RTÉ, as well as her weekend breakfast program on Virgin Radio, is refreshingly friendly, open, and inviting. She's also very familiar with photoshoots and always ready for the camera. On a misty October day, we received a warm welcome upon arriving at her North London home, greeted by the familiar smile, personality, and face that we recognize from primetime television, her vibrant Instagram (consider following her!), and her appearances at fashion shows' front rows. Angela's initial venture into the limelight began with her work as a stylist, ultimately leading her to television and broadcasting. Her first significant documentary, Oi Ginger!, aired on RTÉ in 2014 and received critical acclaim. This success paved the way for a follow-up series, Angela Scanlon: Full Frontal, which addressed sensitive topics like extreme makeovers, fitness, and nudity. Since her involvement with the BBC, Angela has hosted The One Show, the cult favorite Robot Wars, BBC Two's popular interior design program Your Home Made Perfect, and covered events like T in the Park festival and the BAFTAs. She also has her own Saturday night talk show on RTÉ One, called Ask Me Anything, and in 2023, participated in the BBC hit show Strictly Come Dancing. In 2022, Angela released her debut book, Joyrider, to positive reviews. Part memoir and part self-help book, Joyrider chronicles Angela's personal journey in self-development. With no intention of slowing down, Angela has expanded her presence in radio and television for 2025, and recently launched the wildly popular and humorous podcast Get A Grip, alongside co-host Vicky Pattison. Known for her eclectic personal style and her jewelry line FRKL., we explored her vibrant wardrobe, filled with unique pieces, designer handbags, trendy high-street items, and vintage treasures. During our chat, she showcased some of her favorite items and discussed her path into the realms of fashion, television, and radio. Read on for our exclusive discussion and Angela’s recommended shopping picks.

Thank you for welcoming us, Angela! You grew up in County Meath, Ireland. How did that shape your personal style?

Absolutely, I grew up in County Meath, just outside Dublin, and I was definitely a country girl. As one of four sisters, I think I've used fashion from a young age to stand out. I’m not sure I always succeeded, but I was definitely passionate about what I wore and how I styled my outfits to attract attention. I had some favorite things that I wore incessantly. For instance, I remember a pair of Levi jeans I had when I was around 11 or 12 that I cut on the inside leg to make them flare over my trainers, and I inherited an Umbro Sports top from my older sister that I thought was the coolest item ever. So, yeah, I was really into fashion and style early on.

      What’s your earliest fashion memory?

I recall wearing a dress for my Holy Communion when I was about 8, which I got from my older sister. I really wanted my own dress, but that wasn’t an option since it was just for one day. We were reusing this dress, and I claimed that if I could style it my way, I'd wear it. So, I put a hoop underneath to make it puff out like a real skirt instead of just hanging straight. I added a flower crown and a little silk pouch bag with an elastic handle and pearl details. I felt so cool! And to finish, I wore polka dot white tights with black patent shoes—the kind of old-school princess shoes that had a key in them. It was quite unique, and for me, it was a moment to showcase my confidence.

How would you describe your personal style today, and how has it evolved from your younger years?

I think my style is still somewhat similar. I often fluctuate between very comfortable outfits like tracksuits paired with a great jumper and a shirt tied around my waist with a jacket. Day-to-day, I enjoy a tomboyish, slightly androgynous vibe, leaning towards effortless looks that I tend to wear repeatedly. That aspect hasn’t changed. Then, if I’m going out, I like to get a bit overdressed. It’s either very laid-back or full-on glam with a hint of drama—almost a bit over-the-top. I truly enjoy those bold moments.

Angela sports a Farm Rio denim shirt, jeans, and a Burberry shirt.
