Wearing these designer jeans gives me the sensation of being an adult with great credit and even superior style.

I might be 29, but people frequently think I’m 21. I attribute it to my petite height of five feet and my youthful appearance. Whenever I reveal my actual age, I receive the same comment: "You'll be grateful for looking young when you're older." Perhaps one day I will appreciate that—but that day hasn't arrived yet. Consequently, I’ve spent years discovering how to dress in a more sophisticated way. I’ve found that maxi or midi skirts and dresses suit me better than shorter ones, and that long, fitted jeans are far more flattering than cropped or baggy options. Still, I'm always eager to explore new silhouettes and designers. For instance, a few months ago, inspired by the buzz surrounding Khaite Jeans, I visited their flagship store in NYC and ended up treating myself to a pair that somehow gives me a taller appearance. Recently, I also stocked my closet with maxi pencil skirts from Enza Costa and COS. Despite all this, one brand remained on my must-try list: Nili Lotan, specifically their denim. From TikTok to Instagram and Substack (yes, I tend to be online a lot), every fashion influencer I follow has praised Nili Lotan jeans. While they’ve highlighted the fit, feel, and quality, I've noticed that everyone, regardless of body type, appears a bit more sophisticated and polished in these jeans, which naturally piqued my interest.

For those who may not be aware, Nili Lotan is a New York–based designer who established her label in 2003 after a career with notable brands like Ralph Lauren and Nautica. Over the past 20 years, she has crafted her brand around timeless, elegant staples—pieces that are simple, functional, and luxurious, which is perfectly illustrated by her jeans. They are made from Japanese denim, a premium, long-staple cotton recognized for its durability and beautiful fading over time. In other words, they’re designed to last.

Since I’m easily influenced but also like to see things for myself, I ventured to Nili Lotan's Tribeca store to try on the brand's top four best-selling denim styles: Shon, Joan, Megan, and Florence. Without further ado, keep scrolling to discover how each pair fits and how they made me feel, and hopefully, appear more mature.

      **Nili Lotan Shon Jeans**

My review: Whether you're a long-time fan of Nili Lotan or just discovering the brand, you’ve probably encountered the beloved Shon pant. This barrel-leg design has been spotted in the wardrobes of celebrities like Anne Hathaway and Emma Roberts, as well as fashion editors and influencers. Beyond its celebrity endorsements, the Shon pant has earned praise for its ultra-soft fabric, utilitarian-inspired pockets, and a fit that’s both comfortable and flattering. To further highlight its popularity, the brand has an entire section dedicated to the Shon, showcasing everything from wool and cotton styles to leather, corduroy, and Japanese denim—the latter of which I tried on.

Now, onto the review. First off, the Shon pant tends to run large, as my attentive sales associate kindly pointed out. I typically wear a size 25 in jeans, so I opted for a size 24, and I probably could have gone down another size without any issues. While the 24 fit, it sat a bit lower on the waist than the intended mid-rise style. I appreciated the uniquely curved silhouette and seam detail at the knees, which provided a timeless barrel-leg look while still being flattering—no easy task for someone like me who is only 5 feet tall. I was particularly pleased to see how the legs tapered gently at my ankles, rather than pooling on the floor. Overall, these jeans are perfect for anyone looking for stylish yet comfortable denim. They’re the option you reach for when the aim is to look put-together with minimal effort.

      **Nili Lotan Joan Jeans**

My review: When I requested my sales associate to present the best-selling styles, she hesitated before suggesting the Joan, cautioning me that they would likely be far too long. However, knowing they are among the brand's most in-demand pairs, I insisted on trying them on and cuffing them for pictures—and I’m so glad I did. Yes, they’re long—longer than most jeans I’ve worn, but in every other way, they’re nearly perfect. Plus, they offer complimentary hemming for all denim purchases. If you buy yours online, you can take your jeans to a local Nili Lotan store for adjustments.

The Joan features a high-rise, straight-leg silhouette crafted from non-stretch Japanese denim, which makes them fit slightly small. The fit is flattering yet subtly relaxed through the leg
