I'm a Makeup Artist on I'm a Celeb with No Time but a Perfect Score Bedside Beauty Routine—Here Are All the Details.
Tasha Reiko Brown serves as an editor in residence for Who What Wear, and she is also a makeup artist and male groomer based in Los Angeles, as well as a global ambassador for Chanel Beauty. Although I have good intentions, my days rarely allow for a peaceful 30-second application of cuticle oil. I juggle three full-time careers and various clients across different time zones. Additionally, I am the primary caregiver for my mother and need to prepare dinner for my son—sometimes while in London! As an artist, my life is naturally chaotic, and my schedule is more of a concept than a reality. However, I do follow a defined set of routines. My morning routine is quite specific, featuring sunlight, a thorough beauty regimen, peaceful moments in the shower, and a delightful cup of self-ground coffee. It's during the day that my plans tend to unravel as tasks begin to pile up, shift directions, or become unexpectedly urgent. By the day's end, the surprises and chaos really emphasize the importance of maintaining a consistent bedside beauty routine.
One of my favorite moments each day is my nighttime beauty ritual. By that time, all emails are sent, dinner has been enjoyed, and I can take a few moments in bed to relax and reflect. This typically includes journaling and reading a few chapters on my Kindle. I purposefully avoid having a TV in my room, and it's during these soothing moments that my previously mentioned beauty rituals come into play. I apply my hand cream, taking my time to ensure it's well absorbed. As a makeup artist, my hands are essential tools, so I wash them frequently throughout the day and use hand sanitizer generously. Lying in bed allows me to perform smaller beauty rituals with purpose. I oil my cuticles while turning digital pages, taking care of myself as I unwind for the evening and refilling my own cup after investing so much in others throughout the day.
The products I use at night hold significant value for me, and I'm eager to share them with you. Here's everything I keep in my marble catchall by my bed: a carafe of water to avoid leaving my cozy space; cuticle oil to nourish my nails; and hand cream to hydrate my dry skin. A large part of my beauty narrative is intertwined with fragrance. I enjoy deep-scented candles for their evocative ambiance and the gentle light they emit. My morning scents are vibrant, while I prefer richer, woodsy aromas in the evening to lull me to sleep. I also use a candle snuffer to ensure I don’t end my evening with a strong burnt smell, preserving a lovely ritual instead. Additionally, I have a room spray that enhances my mood. I take pleasure in having a beautiful catchall; as Donatella Versace said, “I want to desire everything around me.” Displaying these objects beautifully gives them added significance.
A facial mist brings me joy, and I appreciate a satin-lined bonnet because my hair is delicate and color-treated. My journal is reserved for nighttime, as I can never find time to write in the morning; my schedule is too unpredictable for that practice. If I linger too long in bed, I tend to roll over and go back to sleep. I need to get up, open the windows, and start my music to wake the house. I prefer instrumental music—jazz and upbeat blues—since most of my business is based in New York or Europe, and I am always eager to begin my day. This isn’t an endorsement of hustle culture; my work is an extension of myself, and I am genuinely excited to see where the day will lead.
