I'm Eager to Imitate Selena Gomez's Romeo + Juliet Manicure—It's Reminiscent of 1996 in the Most Wonderful Way.
I connect Selena Gomez with a distinctive manicure that is both simple and elegant. Recently, she has showcased a luxurious "peach champagne" shade and a timeless cherry-red color. As a beauty editor, I always admire these sophisticated nail styles, but she has recently unveiled a new set that is far from understated. It's bold, extravagant, intricate, and reminiscent of Romeo + Juliet—not Shakespeare's original version from 400 years ago, but Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film featuring Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio. If you know, you know. Celebrity nail artist Tom Bachik designed this manicure, and it is breathtaking. It includes all the visually stunning colors and elements from the 1996 movie, featuring shades of blood red, romantic pink, and pure white, along with sparkling nail gems, a Sacred Heart symbol, and shimmering hints of gold. Looking at it transports me back to the soaring orchestral music and Leo's longing, tear-filled eyes.
As someone who A) constantly rewatched Romeo + Juliet as a teenager (I've still got a VHS copy safely stored), and B) collects nail art designs as if it's part of my job (which it is), I'm totally captivated by this level of intricacy. My millennial heart can hardly take it!
I would love to flaunt this manicure anytime, but I think it’s particularly suitable for the holidays or Valentine's Day. (You can expect to see me recreating it on February 14th). Unfortunately, my usual minimalist manicures are out; this maximalist look is in. In an Instagram post, Bachik mentioned using Tweezerman products, Aprés colors, and his own Click Colors nail polishes. While I believe it might be challenging to replicate this manicure at home, I plan to either book a salon appointment soon or attempt to achieve a similar effect with press-ons and nail gems.
