If you ventured outside this summer, you likely noticed numerous individuals adorned with polka dots. This playful print was seemingly ubiquitous on bikinis, flip-flops, bags, and skirts; it was inescapable. Some might say we reached the height of polka dot fashion. However, as temperatures dropped, the prints took on a more serious tone. As anticipated, plaid became prominent, with occasional flashes of animal prints. Then something surprising occurred. I entered Sandy Liang and spotted the Cairo Cardigan, a polka-dot knit from the designer's F/W 25 collection. Unlike the polka-dot pieces that had flooded my feed in recent months, this one felt ideal for the colder season. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since, imagining how well it would pair with my long skirts and chunky loafers.
Shortly after, while browsing J.Crew's new arrivals, I came across a form-fitting, cropped red polka-dot cardigan. I bought it immediately, and it's quickly turned into one of my most frequently worn items this winter. I adore how it adds a whimsical touch to my layered outfits, and it feels a bit more exciting than plaid or animal prints. Nonetheless, I enjoy mixing prints and patterns, and polka dots certainly bring a fun element alongside either choice. Combining polka dots with textures and typical cold-weather patterns can transform a winter outfit from dreary to playful. Now, it seems nearly every store I enter has a polka-dot knitwear option that's ideal for the moment, proving that the notion we've hit peak polka dot is respectfully inaccurate. If anything, I believe another wave of polka dots is on the horizon.
