All the Stunning Aspects of Amanda Seyfried's "Romantic" and "Poetic" Cover Shoot

While Amanda Seyfried's breathtaking wardrobe (Harris Reed! McQueen! Schiaparelli!) is hard to overlook, the actress's striking beauty look for our December Cover is equally captivating. With voluminous, styled hair, fluttering lashes, and a bitten lip, the aim was to achieve a romantic and effortless vibe, successfully delivered by hairstylist Serge Normant and makeup artist Genevieve Herr. Below, Normant and Herr share their favorite moments from the shoot, along with their techniques and product choices that contributed to Seyfried's gorgeous look for Who What Wear. Keep reading!

According to Normant, the inspiration for Seyfried's hairstyle was intended to be "romantic and poetic," evolving subtly throughout the shoot. "We aimed for an undone and effortless style that featured movement, as if there was a gentle breeze," he explains. To prepare for styling, Normant used mousse on Seyfried’s damp hair, blow-drying it with a medium-sized round brush. After drying, he applied a light texturizing spray, then utilized a one-inch curling iron to create soft, natural waves with uneven sections of hair. Finally, he added dry oil for shine and hair spray for hold. Normant emphasized that he always keeps a good mousse, texturizing spray, and high-quality dry oil handy when working with celebrity clients.

Now, moving on to Seyfried’s makeup. Herr mentions being particularly influenced by the avant-garde and structured clothing choices for the shoot. She aimed for a makeup look that would complement the moody aesthetic of the designs and color scheme. "I always like to awaken Amanda's skin using the Skorr Skin Glow Wand ($685), followed by an eye cream and rich moisturizer all over her face and neck," Herr notes. "This prepares the skin for primer, and I prefer this one from Dior since it keeps the makeup fresh all day while enhancing natural radiance with light-reflecting particles." For foundation, she favors Armani Beauty's highly regarded Luminous Silk Foundation ($69), which she always dilutes with a moisturizer for a more natural finish.

When working with Seyfried, Herr enjoys highlighting two of her favorite features: the actress's "big, beautiful eyes" and her "lovely" mouth. "Enhancing her eyes makes them even more captivating, while a bold lip accentuates the beautiful shape of her lips," she elaborates. For some looks, Herr used a white eyeshadow to bring out the blue in Seyfried's eyes, while for others, she focused on her mouth with a stunning bold lip. Herr frequently uses Lancôme's Idôle Tint Liquid Eyeshadow & Eyeliner ($30) and the brand's Lash Idôle Lash-Lifting Volumizing Mascara ($30), which she claims truly lifts and fans the lashes.

"This photoshoot was a fantastic day with an incredible team," states Normant. "Teamwork is always crucial, and Amanda is very receptive to the creative process—she’s a dream to work with and is incredibly inspiring." Herr adds, "It's vital for the stylist, makeup artist, and hairstylist to collaborate during a shoot like this. Good communication and shared creativity are essential for achieving a cohesive and stunning final look—this day was enjoyable, allowing us to experiment with various styles. Amanda is always open to our suggestions and loves playing with her makeup and hair, making the entire shoot a pleasure!"
