"I Enjoy Spraying It": Coco Gauff Discusses Miu Miu Beauty's Scent for Night Out and Her Most Amusing Evening in Paris
Welcome to Beauty's Night Out, a series focused on the essential beauty discussions that are making waves in the nightlife world. Get ready for an exclusive look at the newest trends, behind-the-scenes tutorials, and plenty of inspiration for your outings—all you need is your favorite playlist. This time, we're diving into a night out with Coco Gauff, the world No. 2 tennis champion and U.S. ambassador for Miu Miu Beauty's Miutine Eau de Parfum.
When Frank Ocean's music plays, nothing can hinder Coco Gauff from enjoying herself—not even dehydration or the watchful eyes of over 2 million people on Instagram Live. I can hear her joy as she recounts her victory at the 2025 French Open this past June, which led to some celebratory toasts and, as it turns out, her first experience with Parisian nightlife. "I didn’t hydrate much after the match. It lasted nearly three hours, and when you win, everyone offers you champagne... and I couldn’t refuse!" she shares with a laugh. Who could blame her? After all, victory champagne is bound to taste even better.
"My friends who were in Paris and my team were there too, and I had such a great time," she continues. "I remember they played Frank Ocean at the bar, and I'm a huge fan. He was my second most-listened artist this year. I went Live when his song came on—everyone was worried about me going Live. I just wanted to enjoy the music and share the moment with everyone. I might have sounded off-key, but that’s fine." Perfection isn’t necessary when you're executing brilliant overhead smashes and serving at speeds of 128 miles per hour.
Winning the French Open was a significant accomplishment, accompanied by an equally memorable outing, which Gauff admits is not typically how she celebrates after matches. "Tennis players don’t get to go out very often," she highlights. On an ordinary evening—well, as "ordinary" as life can be for the world No. 2 champion—she usually indulges in her favorite TV series (Stranger Things, which she mentions she's "almost finished with season four") and orders room service at her hotel if she's playing late. "If I play earlier in the day, I try to have dinner with my parents. Something low-key, because when you’re still in the tournament, you tend to focus on the goal," she notes.
However, when she does go out, she certainly comes prepared. "When I go out, I feel like I need everything, not just for myself but for others too," she explains. Gauff is the go-to friend who always carries a phone charger, a tampon, a mini perfume (Miutine, naturally), chewing gum, or sanitizing wipes ("Because sometimes tables can be a bit dirty, and you have to clean them"). I can envision her handing out these essentials with a warm, Mary Poppins-like efficiency—just replace the never-ending carpet bag with Miu Miu's Wander Matelassé. "It's the ideal size for a night out," Gauff remarks about the luxurious nappa leather bestseller. "I’m not a big person for purses, but you need enough space for your little items."
Alongside the practical must-haves, those "little items" also include some beauty essentials she swears by for a night worth broadcasting Live.
You'll always find a travel-sized fragrance in Gauff's shoulder bag—specifically and fittingly, Miu Miu's Miutine, for which she is a U.S. ambassador, alongside Paloma Elsesser and Chloë Sevigny. "Some people will spray in areas that you’re ‘supposed to,’ but I prefer to douse myself," she admits. And she believes in generous application: "When I can no longer smell it, that's my cue to reapply."
As a visual person, Gauff doesn’t classify perfumes as "day" or "night" scents but instead pairs them with specific outfits (think a spicy floral with wide-leg pants, or a delicious gourmand with a luxurious velvet coat). "If I wear the same outfit all day, I'll stick with the same fragrance, but if I change outfits, I might switch up my scent," she clarifies. "Or if both outfits, one for day and one for night, evoke the same vibe, I'll use the same fragrance." She feels Miutine is suitable for both casual and going-out looks—though she pairs it with skirts. "Skirts feel so Miu Miu to me," she notes. "Whenever I wear a skirt, I have to reach for Miutine. And whenever I put on little kitten heels, it just feels right."
Regarding makeup, Gauff's portable essentials ensure she achieves just the right amount of glow—specifically, soft, velvety skin and irresistibly juicy
