My sensitive, acne-prone skin often reacts poorly to most exfoliants—however, this K-beauty essential is the notable exception.
Before I learned how to manage my super-sensitive, acne-prone skin, I often felt like pulling my hair out. Ironically, we're frequently advised that strong exfoliation is the ultimate solution for breakouts—whether it’s through exfoliating cleansers or potent BHAs such as salicylic acid. However, it took me years to realize that this method was not benefiting my skin at all. In fact, it exacerbated my acne significantly and caused more inflammation the moment the exfoliant was applied. Just as I was about to panic, I stumbled upon celebrity aesthetician Sofie Pavitt's much gentler approach to treating breakouts. Her philosophy revolves around maintaining a simple acne-care routine and opting for a milder exfoliant when skin is overly sensitive. This approach worked wonders for me, leading me to create a routine with only one active ingredient.
After recognizing this method was more effective for my skin, I decided to experiment with Korean exfoliating pads, having heard they deliver results without irritation. Upon trying some popular K-beauty formulas, I was thoroughly impressed. I have become a devoted fan of Korean skincare due to its excellent formulation for extremely sensitive skin. Numerous brands have adeptly crafted highly effective exfoliating pads that do not cause irritation or harm to the skin barrier. As someone with very sensitive skin, finding such products is incredibly challenging. Typically, other exfoliating pads are not suitable for me as they tend to be either too strong or lead to irritation and redness over time.
If you share a similar skin type, keep reading. I’ve compiled a list of my all-time favorite Korean exfoliating pads for ultra-sensitive skin, all under $25. Trust me—you won't regret giving any of these a try. (In fact, your skin may even thank you.)
**ANUA Heartleaf 77 Clear Pad**
These exfoliating pads from Anua are my current favorite. The secret to effectively formulating for super-sensitive, acne-prone skin lies in using PHAs like gluconolactone instead of high concentrations of more irritating ingredients like salicylic acid. The inclusion of calming components such as heartleaf extract makes these pads an excellent choice for skin that is prone to irritation and redness. For a long time, I struggled to find a tolerable daily exfoliant, but these pads provided the perfect solution. I use them almost every night now, and my skin has significantly improved. I noticed a remarkable reduction in congestion and blackheads on my nose after just one application.
**APRILSKIN Calendula PHA Hyaluronic Toner Pads**
I’m a big fan of Aprilskin, and their pads are another fantastic option for those with sensitive skin. They are enriched with calming calendula flower water rich in antioxidants and contain gluconolactone for gentle skin decongestion. Allantoin is also included to soothe any redness or irritation.
**Medicube Zero Pore Pad Mild**
While Medicube’s original Zero Pore Pads ($21) are a well-known Korean favorite, the exfoliants and oils in that formula can be excessive for super-sensitive, acne-prone skin. This is where the gentler Zero Pore Pad Mild comes into play. This version is much less intensive and, honestly, a lot less irritating. Like other options for sensitive skin, it features gluconolactone to tighten pores and eliminate blackheads instead of stronger, more irritating ingredients. I also appreciate the addition of panthenol, madecassoside (an anti-inflammatory), and hyaluronic acid to enhance the skin's moisture levels.
After trying CosRx's Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence ($25) and loving it, I decided to try these hydrating and exfoliating pads. Featuring Alaskan glacier water, squalane, and hyaluronic acid, these pads are incredibly nourishing for dry skin. My skin tends to become dehydrated in winter, and these pads always deliver while also providing exfoliation using a less irritating form of salicylic acid (betaine salicylate) and gluconolactone.
**Round Lab** has gained popularity in Korea, but I feel it’s still underappreciated in the U.S. While their sunscreens are the star products, the Dokdo pads are rich in panthenol and plant extracts that soothe sensitive or stressed skin. Alongside the CosRx pads, I’ve found these to be among the most hydrating options. They deliver hydration while still effectively exfoliating, and I experienced no irritation at all while using them.
**SOME BY MI AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Truecica Clear Pad**
A friend of mine, who is also a Korean skincare enthusiast, recommended these Some By Mi exfoliating pads to me. Initially skeptical due to my sensitive skin, I’m now happy to say they are an excellent choice for sensitive skin. Each pad contains a high concentration of cica essence, a
