The Stylish NYC Dinner Reservation Everyone in Fashion is Eyeing
In a city like New York, where around five million restaurants are vying for your attention at any moment, a certain level of excellence is required, which explains why celebrities, fashion enthusiasts, and food lovers seem to flock to The Corner Store. Honestly, it would be unusual not to see paparazzi stationed at the corner of Broadway and Houston, waiting for someone famous to enter the popular venue. On a chilly Wednesday evening, I visited the trendy Soho hotspot with our fashion director, Michaela Bushkin. After confirming with the bouncer that we indeed had a reservation (as it seems many people try to peek in), we were quickly escorted from the cold into a cozy booth. What impressed me right away was the atmosphere: warm, vibrant, and refreshingly down-to-earth. It lacked the rigid "look at me" attitude you might anticipate from a place often visited by Hailey Bieber, Taylor Swift, Gigi Hadid, Sabrina Carpenter, and others.
Service at popular restaurants can vary, so I was pleasantly surprised by the attentiveness of the staff. We were well taken care of from the beginning, and the restaurant's beverage manager, Dev Johnson, continuously checked in to ensure we ordered the right items, were enjoying ourselves, and didn’t miss any standout dishes. He may have even suggested a few personal favorites we might have overlooked. Thank you, Dev.
When it comes to ordering, it gets serious. There’s a variety of martini options to consider (Espresso! Dirty! Tomato! Sour cream?), starters that could easily serve as a main course, and mains that require a pep talk for your stomach to make room. The Caesar salad was distinct and excellent. The artichoke dip might have changed my brain chemistry. However, the dish that Michaela and I couldn't stop raving about was the Wagyu French dip from the Butcher's Counter menu. It featured a perfectly toasted bun, unbelievably tender ribeye, and an au jus that deserves recognition. No criticisms here. And though I was ready to be rolled home after that, Dev ensured we didn’t leave without trying dessert: warm mini apple pies with ice cream, the Samoa sundae, and an affogato. Totally worth it.
And just in case you're curious, yes, we dressed for the occasion. This is a moment to elevate your outfit. You don’t have to wear your most dramatic winter gown, but it’s not the time to be too casual. Think stylish trousers (with a bit of give because, well, you know) or a pair of opaque maroon tights paired with a minidress and trendy accessories. Oh, and since it’s winter, don’t forget to arrive in a fabulous faux-fur coat. What if you run into paparazzi while walking in? One can only hope.
