Japan has long been at the top of my travel wishlist, and I finally had the chance to visit this fall, staying at the Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo. This stunning hotel combines the Italian heritage of the famous fashion brand with both traditional and modern Japanese design elements. Located in the Yaesu district, adjacent to the vibrant Ginza shopping and dining area, it boasts views of the Imperial Palace, Mount Fuji, and Tokyo Train Station.
Recently, the Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo was recognized as the #1 hotel in both Japan and Tokyo, and #15 in the world according to The World's 50 Best. Having opened in April 2023, the hotel is one of the newest to receive such a high ranking on this esteemed list of top global hotels. Below is an inside look at the Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo and all the essential details for your upcoming visit.
**Hotel Overview: Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo**
Situated on floors 40 to 45 of a skyscraper in the Yaesu district, the Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo offers breathtaking views of the expansive cityscape. The hotel's design elegantly blends modern Italian aesthetics with Japanese traditional elements, showcasing the rich heritage of Bvlgari through the work of local artisans. The property features a total of 98 rooms and suites. The moment you enter a room, it's as if you're witnessing a performance; the front door opens, and the curtains sweep aside, revealing spectacular views through a full-length glass façade.
**The Finer Details**
The hotel houses several dining options, including the Michelin-starred Il Ristorante - Niko Romito, an intimate 8-seat sushi experience at Sushi Hōseki, and The Bvlgari Bar, which features a Mediterranean menu. Impressive breakfast options are available at Il Ristorante or via in-room dining, featuring a range from Japanese to Western, Chinese, and fitness-focused menus. For those focused on wellness, there’s a beautifully designed Bvlgari gym within a wood-paneled setting, offering workout equipment and classes. Adjacent to it, the spa boasts nine treatment rooms with views of Tokyo from the 40th floor, utilizing luxurious products like Augustinus Bader. I indulged in a signature massage that was so relaxing, I had to actively work to stay awake. After my treatment, I enjoyed the stunning indoor pool, adorned with emerald green mosaic tiles and equipped with lounge chairs for relaxation.
**What to Pack**
Packing for Tokyo changes with the seasons, but my fall trip required specific seasonal items. The crisp yet refreshing temperatures made layering essential, so I packed medium-weight jackets, knits, jeans, and loafers. We also faced a few rainy instances, making a trench coat and boots necessary. For dining at Michelin-starred restaurants with smart dress codes, dresses and heels were ideal.
**The Delta One Experience**
For my long journey from New York to Tokyo, I took a flight from JFK to LAX, connecting from LAX to HND aboard Delta One. The Delta One experience starts before boarding. Exclusive entrances for Delta One ticket holders at both JFK and LAX made security a breeze. This experience also includes access to the Delta One lounges—at JFK, a three-course dinner that featured options from tuna tartare to burgers; at LAX, breakfast with choices like chilaquiles, avocado toast, and fresh cinnamon buns by local chef Squirl. When it was time to board, a Porsche service transported me directly from the lounge to the plane without needing to navigate the airport.
The in-flight experience provides a premium travel atmosphere, featuring lie-flat seats. While I’ve traveled on Delta One previously for domestic and European flights, the Airbus 350-900 on the LAX-HND route stands out with its suite-style enclosed seats, new Missoni kits with in-flight essentials at every chair, luxurious Missoni bedding, and offerings such as Tattinger champagne and menu selections crafted by Chef Norio Ueno.
