I Could Earn a PhD in Anticipating Nail Trends—8 Manicures I Predict Will Rise in Popularity in 2026
A quick modest shout-out: I have a unique talent for predicting nail trends. It genuinely excites me to explore the season's most stylish manicures and guess what will come next (good thing that's my profession, right?), and I've hit the mark more than a few times. For instance: jelly bean nails in summer, rum raisin nails in fall, and nail crowns for those moments when you want to radiate elegance. If you're looking for designs that feel trendy, chic, and anything but basic, believe me—you've landed in the right spot. As you might imagine, I’ve been thinking about nail trends for 2026 well before the new year began, and after saving countless Instagram photos, screenshotting some hidden gems from Pinterest, and also talking to trusted experts about their favorites, I'm finally set to unveil my predictions. Keep scrolling to discover eight trends we can expect to see emerge in the coming months. Don’t say I didn’t give you a heads-up!
**Milk Bath Nails**
"I believe we will see a surge in milk bath nails (taking over from the beloved soap nails)," states nail artist Fariha Ali. "I genuinely think milky white will become the new soft pink." You heard it here first! Both shades are undoubtedly timeless, but Ali anticipates that oat or almond milk tones will rise in popularity—largely due to Pantone's Color of the Year, Cloud Dancer. "People are craving a softer lifestyle now more than ever, leading to an increase in soft whites," she adds. Moreover, sheer gel polishes are evolving into more sophisticated options with streak-free finishes that have an ideal level of opacity. "This will be why the 2026 sheer-white manicure will look significantly better than its 2019 counterpart and will match virtually any outfit or vibe," Ali notes.
**Y2K Mauve**
This is not to say pink is "out." Instead, "I think Y2K mauve pinks are making a resurgence," Ali mentions. I concur, as we witnessed rum raisin shades (or cool-toned berry mauves) dominating this fall. It’s an undeniably cozy selection for the colder months, yet it's pretty versatile for manicures throughout the year. Just ask nail artist Coca Michelle, who utilized a rum raisin hue in one of the nail looks for Grace Ling’s spring/summer 2026 show. "It can evoke grunge while still being chic and mysterious," she previously shared with WWW about this trend.
**Built-In Pearl**
I know, I know—a pearlescent, glazed-donut manicure might not sound revolutionary. However, according to Ali, you don’t need chrome powder anymore to achieve this trendy, Hailey Bieber-inspired look. "I see more of it incorporated into the polish rather than as a chrome layer or glitter topper," she explains. It seems that virality sparks innovation, and these updated iridescent polishes demonstrate that this style isn't fading at all.
**Waterdrop Manis**
In terms of product advancements, Ali highlights that cat-eye technology (polish with magnetic pigments) has evolved significantly. "The latest versions utilize the finest pigment size and, when activated, resemble a droplet of light caught beneath your nails," she elaborates. Enter the waterdrop manicures. According to celebrity nail artist Julie Kandalec, who recently attended the 2025 Tokyo Nail Expo (one of the largest nail festivals globally), these magnetic nails with no visible glitter particles are set to gain traction.
**Back to Nature**
When it comes to nail art, both Kandalec and Ali foresee natural elements taking the spotlight, particularly stones like marble, opal, and geodes. By thoughtfully layering varying tones and/or glitters, you can create designs that are "less flashy but completely conversation starters," notes Ali. She has also noticed a rise in tone-on-tone color combinations (think white-on-white marble styles), which exude a sense of quiet luxury, alongside a "back to nature" color palette of soft neutrals and muted pinks.
**3D Gummy Nails**
Kandalec pointed out that textured nail art, especially a gummy-like 3D finish, was one of the standout trends at the Tokyo Nail Expo. "3D gummy nails have been attempting to make a mark for the past few years, but I truly believe they are here to stay," she shares, indicating that sheer, jelly neon shades will be incredibly trendy as we approach spring and summer. If 2025 was defined by molten manicures (think 3D chrome layers), then 2026 will bring a more playful, candy-like vibe.
**Rich Brown**
A deep chocolate brown is arguably the most sophisticated winter shade, relevant in both fashion and beauty. Think of suede coats, cashmere sweaters, luxurious hair colors, and, of course, rich, moody manicures. While it’s certainly a stylish option
