From Chic Winter Shades to Valentine's Day Inspiration: 6 Nail Colors That Are Trending This February
As someone who closely monitors the newest nail trends, I can say that 2026 is off to a fantastic start. January offered a plethora of fun and striking styles, and I'm excited to share that February is shaping up to be just as promising. A key aspect of my role as a beauty editor is to keep updated on current trends. February, in particular, is always a fascinating month for nail art because we are still deep in winter, a time when people often lean towards cooler tones, while Valentine's Day brings a shift towards richer hues like deep reds, purples, and pinks. In essence, if you're looking for a manicure that feels relevant, you'll have an extensive selection of colors to choose from. Still, I wanted to pinpoint which specific shades are set to stand out this month. To gain insight, I consulted three top nail artists for their recommendations. Read on to discover their favorites.
1. Deep Wine
While classic red manicures remain timeless, this deep wine shade adds a moody twist. "It's rich, romantic, and slightly mysterious," says Natalia Mercedes, nail artist and founder of Sad Girl Nails. "The color feels luxurious and grounding, especially as people gravitate towards darker, sensual shades in winter that remain polished and wearable."
2. Muted Blues
If you weren't aware, muted blues are currently trending. With winter in full swing, this choice makes perfect sense. "[Blues] provide a cool, calming contrast to winter’s heaviness without being frosty," Mercedes explains. "Think slate, dusty denim, and stormy sky tones. They’re unexpected neutrals that are modern, effortless, and subtly chic."
3. Blood Red
With Valentine's Day approaching, this shade is a clear favorite. "Blood reds are everywhere this season due to their bold, glossy finish that feels unapologetically striking," Mercedes states. "Deeper and more dimensional than a true red, this color offers a darker, more seductive interpretation of Valentine's Day beauty."
4. Warm Purple
Purples generally have an edgier vibe, but finding warmer undertones can create a more balanced appearance. Mercedes notes that discovering this in-between hue feels both romantic and playful without being overly sweet. "It’s perfect for February when people desire something flirty yet still sophisticated," she explains.
5. Floral Pink
When winter feels particularly harsh, sometimes all you need is a reminder that spring is just around the corner. Why not usher in some warmth with a pink manicure? "Floral-inspired pinks bring a fresh, blooming essence to winter nails," says Jacqueline Pham, a celebrity manicurist for Color Street. "They symbolize the transition from winter to spring, adding visual appeal while remaining soft and feminine."
6. Subtle Shimmer
Although shimmer isn't a color in the traditional sense, it’s the one "color" trend that experts are unanimously highlighting. "Micro-glitter adds dimension without overwhelming the nail," Pham explains. "This finish beautifully captures light, offering that 'soft sparkle' effect—ideal for romantic and festive occasions." Katie Masters, nail artist and founder of Nail Thoughts, concurs, mentioning that variations of this trend, like cat-eye, chrome, and flash glitter, are gaining popularity for the same reasons.
