The World of June Ambrose: Her Bold Fashion Choices, Landmark Career Highlights, and the Insights She's Sharing with…
Enter the realm of the most innovative talents in the fashion world with our series My World, where readers will learn how leading stylists, designers, and influencers shaped their careers; their go-to restaurants, cherished music albums, and fashion discoveries; the etiquette principles they hold dear; and much more. June Ambrose possesses a quiet authority. While her name may not be widely recognized, she is the mastermind behind many unforgettable moments on the red carpet, music videos, and celebrity fashion. Those within the fashion industry are well aware of her influence. The revered stylist, costume designer, and creative director has embarked on a new chapter characterized more by intention than proximity to power. This clarity stems from the knowledge, experience, and self-confidence she has cultivated over the years in the industry.
For Ambrose, success isn't about multitasking. It revolves around discernment—understanding when to immerse herself in work, when to safeguard her energy, and when to prioritize family. "Work/life balance is an ongoing juggling act, not a set formula," she states. "Different phases demand different priorities, and that's perfectly fine." This belief underpins her latest endeavor, a collaboration with Naturalizer that addresses the long-standing compromise between comfort and style. Rooted in her concept of Style-letics, the collection blends fashion, movement, and culture, catering to women who navigate various roles and refuse to confine themselves to a single identity. Her world is constructed on bold style and profound intention, influenced by icons such as Grace Jones and Donna Summer and founded on the principle that fashion serves as a form of communication. It's incredibly personal, and this current era of individual-first style aligns perfectly with her vision. From the career insights she's sharing with her daughter to the clothing she hopes will become family heirlooms, Ambrose's take on style and life focuses on legacy rather than superficial noise. Below, she discusses the creative instincts that guide her, the pivotal moments of her career, and why true power should always embody freedom.
What does work/life balance mean to you, and how do you manage family, personal needs, and a thriving career? I stay centered by intentionally managing my time, protecting my energy, and understanding when to engage in work versus family or personal time. Creativity flourishes when I feel fulfilled in life, not depleted. Genuine success, to me, isn't juggling everything simultaneously; it's about crafting a career that complements your life rather than opposing it. Balance is about grace, flexibility, and giving yourself the freedom to define success on your own terms.
How would you like to characterize your 2026 era? Power with purpose. My 2026 era focuses on intentional power—acting with clarity, confidence, and purpose. It's a time for refinement, where I'm branching out into new areas and collaborating with partners who genuinely resonate with my vision and values. It's not about doing more but channeling my efforts towards what truly matters—creating a work and life that feels strong, elevated, and sustainable.
What recent project do you want to highlight? Honestly, this collaboration with Naturalizer feels like the most genuine work I've created in a long time. My goal was not to produce another shoe moment but to challenge a prevailing mindset. Naturalizer has been synonymous with comfort for almost 100 years, and I aimed to amplify that message through my perspective on high-fashion, street style, and music culture. This initiative conveys a clear message: Comfort is no longer an extra—it’s a fundamental necessity. Uncomfortable shoes are simply unacceptable, and women have stopped compromising on pain for the sake of style. This collection redefines fashion to embrace movement, combining athletic performance with stylish aesthetics, offering a sense of revelation.
What inspired this collection? The inspiration is rooted in real life. Women operate in multiple capacities simultaneously. Every day feels like a sport, yet shoe options have overly favored one side for too long. I term this concept Style-letics, an innovative blend of culture, movement, and identity. These aren't just dress shoes pretending to be athletic; they are fashionable designs that understand how women genuinely maneuver through life. We introduced performance-level cushioning into unexpected silhouettes because style should support, not hinder. I also appreciate that this conversation spans across generations. My daughter and I can authentically wear the same styles, which represents the future—comfort as a given and permission-driven style.
Describe the ideal woman you envision wearing these shoes. I always start by considering the woman: where she’s headed, what she’ll be doing, and how she wants to feel when she arrives. These shoes are for women who can lead a meeting, stroll ten blocks, dance all night, and still make a statement without uttering a word. She holds no apologies for herself, just as her shoes shouldn’t either. She realizes that style can possess power without inflicting discomfort. Each shoe in this collection serves as a punctuation mark, helping to narrate her story. Whether she’s 25 or 55, she's navigating life
