My lashes have always struggled to hold a curl, but this French mascara transformed the situation completely.
Although I'm fortunate to have long, dark eyelashes, they are also pin-straight, which makes it difficult to find a mascara that can not only curl my stubborn lashes but also keep them lifted without sagging. My eyelash curler does a decent job of providing an initial lift, but many curling mascaras I’ve tried fail to maintain the curl beyond midday. I’ve always regarded Lancôme as the pinnacle of mascara, and the original Lash Idôle Mascara (£28) is a favorite among many in our team. Therefore, when I learned that Lancôme was introducing the new Lash Idôle Curl Goddess Mascara (£28), I felt compelled to try it. I've been using it for the past couple of weeks and have some insights to share.
**Lancôme Lash Idôle Curl Goddess Mascara**
Pros:
- Curls and lifts lashes with all-day hold
- Lengthens and adds volume for a wide-eyed appearance
- Lightweight and flexible
- Does not smudge or flake
- Suitable for sensitive eyes
Cons:
- The large wand may be cumbersome for small or hooded eyes
- Could clump if too many layers are applied
**The Brush**
The wand features a uniquely shaped brush with a curved design and bristles angled at 40° that twist around the brush, resembling a helix. Unlike the classic Idôle mascara, it has a firm brush rather than a flexible one, and there are deep reservoirs between the bristles to load up on product and help volumize your lashes during application. The tube itself has an hourglass shape, making it comfortable to hold, and the brushed rose gold finish is gorgeous.
**The Formula**
This mascara dries rather quickly, which helps keep the curl intact (a significant advantage). It boasts a volumizing formula (Lancôme claims it provides a 150% curl boost and up to +800% volume), yet it feels remarkably light on the lashes. The texture is airy and flexible, and I’m pleased to note that it neither flaked nor smudged, even on my hooded eyelids. One coat provides ample length and volume, but a second coat can be applied without clumping. It also didn’t cause any irritation to my watery eyes, which makes it suitable for sensitive eyes as well.
**The Result**
Before - Eleanor's curled lashes before applying mascara.
After - Eleanor's lashes after applying Lancôme Idôle Curl Goddess mascara.
**My Verdict**
As a fan of Lancôme mascaras, this one surpassed my expectations. My lashes held a lovely curl all day long without drooping, with significant volume and length that really made them stand out—they almost reach my brows! Remarkably, it didn’t transfer to my upper lids or flake off either. I’m truly impressed. If I had to find a flaw, I’d say it might be slightly too volumizing for my preference (I usually lean towards less volumizing formulas). However, mascara is a personal choice, so this might not be an issue for everyone. It felt incredibly light on my lashes; a gentle swipe through them is enough to achieve an eye-opening effect. While you can layer on a second coat, applying more than two might lead to clumping. Honestly, one coat is plenty for me. Finally, a mascara that genuinely maintains a curl!

**How I Tested**
I tried the new Lancôme Lash Idôle Curl Goddess Mascara prior to its official launch for two weeks to assess its performance. As a beauty editor with straight lashes that struggle to hold a curl, I examined how effectively it curled and maintained my lashes, while also considering its lengthening and volumizing effects. I wore it daily to check for smudging or flaking and experimented with layering to see how it performed under different conditions.
