Olympic Gold Medalist Alysa Liu Reveals Her Must-Have Drugstore Beauty Products
She has accomplished it! The world-famous figure skater Alysa Liu claimed not just one but two gold medals at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games: one in the team event and another in the individual women's competition. While this achievement is remarkable, what truly shone through was Liu's incredible attitude on the ice. She skated with passion and determination, eager to demonstrate her abilities to the world. Most importantly, she aimed to have fun, bringing joy back into her skating. Following this success is an exciting partnership in the beauty industry, as Liu has become an ambassador for Gillette Venus, a brand renowned for supporting women's excellence in sports. Liu shared with Who What Wear her feelings about winning the individual gold medal. "The best feeling was being out on the ice towards the end of my free skate," she recalls. "I knew I had done an amazing job. The crowd was exhilarated—I was exhilarated. That was an unparalleled feeling." This well-earned victory came after a two-year hiatus for the skater, who emphasized the need for time off to reconnect with herself. She spoke about what that involved. "It's not feasible to just keep pushing forward," she explains. "It's detrimental to your mental and physical health. Taking breaks provides perspective. You can truly step back and recalibrate. Slow and steady wins the race, no matter what that race might be."
This philosophy applies to her life as well. As a busy athlete, she ensures to take time for herself, establishing a straightforward ritual that keeps her grounded. The top item on her self-care list? Showering. To combat athlete perspiration, she says it's the first thing she does once she gets home. When it comes to her skincare routine, she keeps it very simple but did share a few of her tips. "In the morning, I don’t do much," she reveals. "But I do apply sunscreen! I can’t recall the brand… I'm not really into Pokémon, but sometimes the packaging features a Pokémon character." As for her evening routine, Liu mentioned she sought advice from a friend to figure out what to do. "My cousin actually provided me with a skincare routine, and I use snail mucin. It’s great for moisturizing. [But the first thing I do is] I use an e.l.f. product to remove my makeup. I use that, rinse it off, apply eye cream, then the snail mucin. I didn’t use [the snail mucin] last night, and I definitely noticed! It’s thick and you don’t need to use a lot. It goes a long way."
Of course, as a Venus ambassador, she was also generous enough to share her shaving routine. Her favorite Venus razor is the Moisture Glide Gold ($15). "It doesn’t leave my skin dry," she states. "Plus, I really like the design—I think it’s quite cool and a bit fancy." Next, she revealed another surprising detail: she's quite low-maintenance when it comes to her vibrant hair color. "I feel like I don’t keep up with my hair very well," she confesses. "I don’t even use purple shampoo, though maybe I will start! I kind of like the yellow hues in my hair." Nonetheless, she adheres to the basics. "[I use] shampoo, conditioner, and such. I also apply hair oil at the end. That’s definitely the MVP!" Now that Liu has wrapped up her Olympic endeavors, she's looking forward to some well-deserved relaxation. "[My plans are to] sleep, unpack, and try to return to my normal life," she mentions. "[The anime] Jujutsu Kaisen has new episodes available, and I haven't seen them yet, so I’m going to watch them with my friends—we're planning to catch up!"
