Olympic Gold Medalist Alysa Liu Reveals Her Favorite Drugstore Beauty Products
She has achieved it! World-famous figure skater Alysa Liu earned two gold medals at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games: one in the team event and another in the individual women's event. While this is the pinnacle of success, what truly shined was Liu's incredible attitude on the ice. She performed with passion, aiming to demonstrate her abilities to the world. Most importantly, she sought to enjoy herself, bringing happiness back to her skating. Following this achievement, she has exciting news of a beauty partnership. Liu is now an ambassador for Gillette Venus, a brand that has long supported women's excellence in sports. Liu shared with Who What Wear what winning that individual gold medal felt like. "My favorite moment was being out there on the ice toward the end of my free skate," she recalls. "I knew I crushed it. The crowd was excited—I was excited. That was an unbeatable feeling."This hard-earned victory followed a two-year break during which the figure skater emphasized the importance of reconnecting with herself. She discussed what that process involved. "It's impossible to just keep going," she explains. "It's not beneficial for your mental or physical health. Taking breaks? They provide perspective. You can take a step back and reset. Slow and steady wins the race, whatever that race may be."
This philosophy extends to all aspects of her life. As a dedicated athlete, she makes sure to ground herself by establishing a simple ritual that keeps her centered. The top self-care moment for her? Showering. To combat athlete sweat, she's adamant that it’s the first thing she does when she arrives home. Her skincare routine is also very straightforward, but she did share a few of her tips. "In the morning, I do nothing," she admits. "But I do apply sunscreen! I don’t remember the brand... I’m not really into Pokémon, but sometimes the packaging features a Pokémon character."Regarding her nighttime care, Liu states that she consulted a friend to learn what to do. "My cousin gave me a skincare routine, and I use snail [mucin]. It really helps with moisture. [First, I] use an e.l.f. product to remove my makeup. I apply that, wash it off, then I use eye cream, followed by the snail mucin. I didn’t use [the snail mucin] last night, and I can definitely feel the difference! It’s thick, and you don’t need to use a lot; it lasts a long time."As a Venus ambassador, she also kindly shared her shaving routine. Her favorite Venus razor is the Moisture Glide Gold ($15). "It doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry," she explains. "Also, I really like the design—it’s cool and somewhat fancy."Next, she revealed another surprise: she's surprisingly low-maintenance regarding her vibrant hair color. "I feel like I don’t take great care of my hair," she confesses. "I don’t even use purple shampoo, but maybe I’ll start! I don’t know; I kind of like the yellow tones in my hair." However, she does stick to the basics. "[I use] shampoo, conditioner, and so on. I also apply hair oil at the end. That is the MVP!" Now that Liu is finished with the Olympics, she looks forward to some well-deserved rest and relaxation. "[My plans are to] sleep, unpack, and do my best to return to my normal life," she states. "[The anime] Jujutsu Kaisen has new episodes available, and I haven’t seen them yet, so I’ll catch up with my friends—we’re going to watch together!"
