For journalist and Milk Makeup co-founder Zanna Roberts Rassi, the fashion from the 2026 Oscars red carpet was overflowing with great looks. “So many standout looks for me,” said Roberts Rassi. One of her favorites was the red Louis Vuitton dress worn by 'Sentimental Value' star Renate Reinsve. “It’s a fashion girl's dress,” she remarked. “Seeing it wrap around her body, this single piece of red fabric, is so inspiring.” In the latest episode of The Who What Wear Podcast, Roberts Rassi discusses some of her top fashion and beauty moments from the night, which designer made the most significant impact this awards season, and more.       I want to dive into some of the looks. Which ones stood out most for you?

There were so many standout looks for me. Among my top favorites from the night, let’s start with Renate [Reinsve]. She looked stunning. My heart raced when I saw that gorgeous red Louis Vuitton dress.

Karla Welch mentioned to me that morning, “Xana, it’s the simplest thing you’ll ever see.” It’s a fashion girl's dress. Watching it wrap perfectly around her body, that single piece of red fabric is truly inspiring. While it wasn’t a typical Oscars look, I still consider it one of the best dressed of the night. Emma Stone's dress is another favorite. I think it’s something I’d want to wear for my funeral, or if I were ever to get married again—not that I’m planning on it, dear husband.

It sparkled just right. It looks so effortless, yet I know, behind it, there’s probably 600 hours of work that went into creating those beautiful little cat sleeves. Another look that excited me was Teyana Taylor’s, who has really embraced this awards season with joy. She has had an incredible run, showcasing her versatility and winning every fashion battle. Last night was slightly toned down for Teyana, but it still felt Oscars-appropriate. Her Chanel creation, with black and white beading and feathers, was stunning.

Since you’re also the co-founder of Milk Makeup, we’ve got to discuss beauty as well. Was there anything you particularly loved from last night?

There were quite a few moments that embodied that Milk Makeup ethos. We believe in a less-is-more approach—skin that looks its best. We saw a lot of that glassy skin. Emma Stone, for instance, looked like she used the whole hydro grip line; her skin was beautifully glassy, complemented by a blurred lip.

Zoe Saldaña also embraced that Milk Makeup vibe with her glassy skin, featuring a minimal makeup look that everyone paired beautifully.

Reflecting on this awards season, what significant trends do you notice, whether in silhouettes, colors, accessories, or anything else?

Overall, I’d describe the silhouettes as more sculptural. There’s a noticeable trend toward architectural designs. Red carpets are embracing powerful shapes and dramatic silhouettes, moving away from traditional gowns. We see less of the mermaid styles and more of these innovative forms. Louis Vuitton has been at the forefront of this with their futuristic designs. Look at Chase [Infiniti] and Teyana Taylor; it's been remarkable.

Is there a designer, brand, or house that you believe made the most impact this red carpet season, and who do you see as just starting to grow?

Zac Posen is just beginning to make his mark. He launched into this red carpet season with some of Hollywood’s youngest stars. Matthieu Blazy, of course, made a strong showing, and it was delightful to see Chanel represented so vibrantly in this new phase. The colors were unprecedented; we’ve never seen clover green like what Rose [Bryne] wore or the orange Teyana [Taylor] showcased. It’s thrilling to witness.

People are drawn to the house for red carpet events. With Louis Vuitton, you can’t go wrong with Nicolas [Ghesquière]. The blend of futurism, architecture, and unique silhouettes is refreshing. We need more of this on the carpets, and I’m excited to see where it goes in the future.
