When I started planning my trip to Mallorca, Spain, last summer, every fashion-industry friend I told about it responded with the same question: Are you staying at Hotel Corazón? It wasn't a matter of whether I would book there, but when I would do so. After I covered it for Who What Wear's travel guide to the Balearic Islands last year, the hotel quickly became my top choice, and I was fortunate enough to find two nights available right around my travel dates. I booked them faster than I've ever made any purchase on The RealReal (which says a lot) and adjusted my itinerary to fit. When your most fashionable friends and industry colleagues unanimously declare it their favorite hotel in the world, you have no choice but to follow suit.
Rewind to last July, I was driving my rental car through the winding roads of the Tramuntana mountains on the island's northern side, with the windows down and sunlight pouring in. The hotel is positioned atop the canyon, concealed behind a wrought iron gate so discreet that I had to turn around to find it. This set the tone for the entire Corazón experience: I felt less like I was checking into a hotel and more like I was being welcomed into a friend's expansive family estate.
Perched high in the Tramuntana mountains, the hotel lies between the towns of Deià and Sóller, just a quick five-minute drive through the canyon to the nearest cove—although with all the cozy nooks around the pool deck and garden, there are few compelling reasons to leave. Opened in 2023 by British fashion photographer Kate Bellm and her partner, Spanish artist Edgar Lopez, Hotel Corazón is a true artistic endeavor in every sense, with history and carefully curated artworks radiating from every wall. It’s no surprise that many of the guests are prominent figures from the fashion, art, and entertainment industries. The hotel departs from conventional marketing, relying heavily on word of mouth. If you know, you know.
Speaking of history, the establishment is in a beautifully restored 18th-century finca featuring a variety of multi-bedroom suites and common areas that feel more like a living room than a lobby. The property boasts just 15 suites, making it a bit of a challenge to secure a booking (dates in the summer months usually sell out by March), but this adds to its intimate atmosphere.
At Corazón, everything revolves around the terrace. The expansive terracotta space serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and sunset drinks, so unless you opt to eat by the pool, you'll find yourself enjoying the area at different times of the day. Pro tip: Grab a spot at one of the cushioned loungers on the far end for the best view of the sunset over the canyon—it's truly magical.
Farm-to-table is not just a trendy phrase; at Corazón, it embodies a lifestyle. The farm is located just steps from the kitchen and is a primary source of fresh ingredients for the menu. As for the dishes themselves, everything—from the fruit plate I ordered at breakfast to the main courses—is artistically presented, reflecting the hotel’s design-focused ethos. I won't even start on the wine list—I'm still reminiscing about one particular bottle of orange wine months later.
Every area is curated with an artistic eye, from the choices in interior design to the art books that adorn the shelves. In the living room, titles by avant-garde filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky sit alongside comics from French publisher Humanoids. Art pieces are scattered throughout the property, including images from Bellm's personal photography collection. The result is a space designed by artists, for artists.
Let's be honest—the pool is the standout feature. The signature straw umbrellas and vibrant orange loungers make for an ideal Instagram backdrop, but I can confidently say that the experience is just as delightful as it appears. It’s the type of place where time seems to stand still and race ahead simultaneously. I had several days that began with iced coffee by the pool and flowed on through lunch and happy hour. Any meal, drink, or snack can (and should) be delivered right to your lounger.
I would describe the clientele as "down-to-earth and bohemian yet still incredibly stylish." Aviator sunglasses and brightly patterned sarongs were among the first things I noticed guests wearing upon arrival, and my own Mallorcan wardrobe mirrored that vibe—composed of laid-back, breathable pieces accented with personality through beaded necklaces, acetate bangles, and mesh bags.
