Just a heads up: Trendy girls in Los Angeles and New York City will soon sport these sneakers for hikes at Runyon and walks in WSH.
Few subjects ignite as much passion and excitement among Who What Wear fashion editors as sneakers. It's a discussion we can endlessly revisit—predicting upcoming sneaker trends and identifying the must-have styles set to take over chic wardrobes. As the new season unfolds, there are numerous fresh silhouettes to consider, but the standout for us is the newly launched ALO Trail sneakers. Following the popularity of its Recovery Mode, Sunset, and Runner styles, ALO has added a fourth sneaker to its collection. The Trail represents a deliberate, natural evolution and strategic advancement for the brand. Its timing is impeccable, coinciding with fashion's unwavering interest in performance wear, particularly trail-running-inspired sneakers, as the lines between activewear and daily attire continue to blur. Thus, its potential growth is apparent.
In places where ALO enthusiasts reside, such as NYC and L.A., you can expect to see these sneakers in action. In NYC, anticipate seeing trendsetters pairing them with yoga pants and sporty jackets along the West Side Highway. In L.A., they will take on a more laid-back vibe—worn for morning hikes or casual post-Pilates lunches at Erewhon, teamed with leggings, a sports bra, and perhaps a fleece.
While the sneakers were released today, I had the opportunity to test a pair throughout NYC and style them with everyday pieces from my activewear lineup. Now that they are available to purchase, I'm eager to share my insights with anyone who is interested. If you'd like to read the full review and see how I've styled the beige pair, keep scrolling—and if you're just here to shop, you'll want to do the same.
My Review
Let’s begin with the aesthetics. Staying true to its name, the sneaker is inspired by trail running shoe design, but its functionality extends beyond just performance. It boasts technical features such as a drawcord lacing system, an exaggerated traction sole, a high-rebound midsole, and water-resistant materials, yet ultimately, it serves as a fashion sneaker.
In comparison to other trail shoes, this pair appears less technical on the surface and has a deliberately understated appeal. Its muted color palette—black, white, and a soft, earthy beige—coupled with a sleek silhouette allows the sneaker to go beyond its intended setting.
Since I received these sneakers earlier this week, I've worn them throughout NYC without concern for the context. I’ve logged miles in them, using them for walks along the West Side Highway, weightlifting sessions at the gym, coffee runs, and grocery trips. The good news? They transition seamlessly between environments, with comfort being a fundamental aspect. There’s an excellent balance between support and cushioning—the insole feels sturdy and structured, while the ankle collar and tongue are generously padded.
Styling them has been effortless. I’ve teamed them with everything from leggings and a barn jacket to track pants and a striped sweater. Although I typically don’t pair jeans with sneakers, I'm genuinely inspired to try them with baggy jeans or even trousers—they're just that stylish.
In a brief period, I’ve made extensive use of them, and I’ve already decided they will be my go-to shoes. So if you spot me wearing them more than twice a week… you didn’t see anything!
