Few subjects evoke as much enthusiasm among Who What Wear fashion editors as sneakers. It's a topic we can continuously discuss—predicting upcoming sneaker trends and identifying the standout styles that are set to take over the wardrobes of fashion-forward individuals. With the new season upon us, several fresh silhouettes warrant attention, but the ALO Trail sneakers, recently launched, take the top spot on our list. Following the success of their Recovery Mode, Sunset, and Runner styles, ALO has introduced a fourth sneaker to its collection. The Trail feels like a deliberate, organic evolution and a strategic move for the brand. Its arrival is well-timed—fashion's fascination with performance wear, particularly trail-running-inspired sneakers, shows no signs of diminishing, and the lines between activewear and everyday outfits are increasingly blurred. Thus, its potential trajectory is easy to envision.

In areas where ALO enthusiasts reside—specifically NYC and L.A.—the sneaker will make its mark. In NYC, anticipate seeing trendsetters pairing it with yoga pants and sporty jackets along the West Side Highway. In L.A., it will embody a different vibe, more casual—worn laced up for morning hikes or for a post-Pilates meal at Erewhon, styled with leggings, a sports bra, and potentially a fleece.

Although the sneakers launched today, I had the opportunity to try them out around NYC, matching them with everyday pieces and my activewear collection. Now that they are available for purchase, I'm eager to share my insights with anyone interested. If you want a comprehensive review and would like to see how I've styled the beige pair, keep scrolling—if you’re just here to shop, you’ll want to do the same.

      My Review

Let’s begin with the design. True to its name, the sneaker borrows from the aesthetic of trail running shoes, but its intent goes well beyond pure performance. While it features technical elements like a drawcord lacing system, an enhanced traction sole, a high-rebound midsole, and water-resistant materials, it ultimately presents itself as a fashion sneaker.

Compared to other trail shoes, this model appears less technical on the surface and feels intentionally subdued. Its muted color scheme—black, white, and a soft, natural beige—and sleek profile contribute to this, allowing the sneaker to move beyond its original setting. Since receiving these sneakers earlier this week, I've worn them around NYC without concern for appropriateness. I've logged miles in them—walking along the West Side Highway, weightlifting at the gym, running out for coffee, and grocery shopping. The good news? They transition seamlessly between different situations, with comfort being a constant. There's a harmonious balance between support and cushioning—the insole is sturdy and structured, while the ankle collar and tongue provide ample padding.

Styling has been effortless. I've matched them with everything from leggings and a barn jacket to track pants and a striped sweater. Even though I typically don’t pair jeans with sneakers, I'm genuinely tempted to wear them with loose jeans or even trousers—they're just that stylish.

In a short span, I’ve gotten plenty of wear out of them and have already decided they’ll become my go-to footwear. So, if you see me wearing them more than twice a week… just know, you didn’t.
