Courtney Smith exemplifies the ultimate multi-hyphenate; her career journey serves as a masterclass in reinvention. After graduating from Yale Law School, where she obtained her JD and passed the bar exam, Smith initially appeared to be on a path toward a conventional legal career. However, she quickly shifted gears to management consulting at the distinguished firm McKinsey & Company. Over the years, her career trajectory underwent considerable changes: she contributed to restructuring Condé Nast, aided in the launch of a real estate start-up, and even delved into the medical field by completing a post-baccalaureate pre-health program at Columbia University.
Driven by curiosity and a desire to make an impact, Smith joined the board of Planned Parenthood and pursued a master's degree in public health. Yet, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic required her to adapt once more. Throughout all these transitions, one aspect remained consistent in her journey: the Enneagram personality system. For those unfamiliar, the Enneagram is a robust framework that defines nine core personality types, aiding individuals in developing self-awareness, understanding their motivations, and enhancing personal growth and relationships.
Smith had long utilized the Enneagram for self-reflection and guidance during her own career transitions. Recognizing its value in helping others, she turned her personal practice into a professional endeavor. She is now a respected Enneagram coach, group facilitator, and consultant, working with individuals who seek clarity and purpose as well as Fortune 500 companies aiming to improve team dynamics, leadership, and organizational culture through the Enneagram perspective.
In addition to her coaching work, Smith co-authored the book "Choosing Wholeness Over Goodness: A Process for Reclaiming Your Full Self," which provides readers with a practical framework to move beyond the pressure of appearing “good” and to embrace their true, authentic selves.
