I’ve been watching for 8 weeks—here are the beauty products that it girls are currently using in secret.
I have a slight obsession with playing detective. Perhaps it’s the true crime podcasts I listen to while preparing dinner or the seemingly innate sleuthing abilities that women possess, but I'm particularly good at identifying the beauty products that celebrities use in secret. Whether it’s the inconspicuous bottle captured in a dressing room selfie or the partially obscured, label-less perfume featured in a bathroom shot, I often rely on my extensive knowledge of beauty to determine the cleverly disguised items (with labels turned away and bottles partially cropped) based solely on their packaging. (To be honest, it’s often the products that celebrities don’t endorse through brand deals that they use the most.)
Celebrities and social media stars are adept at the art of concealment, aware that an accidental glimpse of the products they actually use, which aren’t part of their promotional campaigns, might lead to scrutiny. However, some stars are unconcerned—or maybe just genuine—and post the occasional unpaid, non-sponsored product photo that reminds us that stars are, in fact, just like us. For instance, influencer Quenlin Blackwell was spotted with, what I believe to be, the effortlessly cool deodorant in her Coachella trailer. Or consider the exact shade of Barbie-pink blush utilized by Olandria Carthen, which I discovered solely on her makeup artist’s page. My recent find: the Sol de Janeiro body cream seen in the shared sprinter van of Tyla and Zara Larsson during Coachella weekend.
And it doesn’t end there. Continue reading for the findings of my investigative efforts.
Sol de Janeiro
Rosa Charmosa Dewy Body Cream
Tyla and Larsson not only made waves during their eventful Coachella weekend, which featured surprise appearances (PinkPantheress joined Larsson during her set), but also documented their girls' trip showcasing their genuine friendship, including charming moments like this shot of Tyla. Once I set my sights beyond the singer's bedazzled lower back tattoo, I quickly spotted Sol de Janeiro’s beautifully scented Rosa Charmosa Dewy Body Cream behind her. Let's be real—the desert can be quite dry!
All eyes were on actress Dree Hemingway (also the great-granddaughter of Ernest) as FX's American Love Story began to premiere, but my focus was diverted to the style-savvy star’s Instagram. She was seen using a chic pair of Dior's cooling under-eye patches while getting ready for an event to hydrate and revitalize her under-eyes. Many celebrities are sporting eye patches as fashion statements these days, but none look as stylish as this designer version.
Lore
Lovely and a Little Twisted Eau de Parfum
I’m uncertain about what Kendall Jenner smells like, but I’ve gained a newfound appreciation for the model-turned-entrepreneur’s fragrance choices after noticing this IYKYK brand on her carefully arranged bathroom counter. In the bottom right corner of her stylish display, Jenner has an assortment of perfumes neatly arranged on a silver tray—featuring her sister Kylie Jenner’s Cosmic 2.0 perfume alongside several Lore fragrances, including this delightful floral scent. The whimsical yellow bottle not only looks charming on her countertop but the fragrance notes also reveal a lovely essence about the sophisticated star. A blend of rose milk, caramelized pistachio, patchouli, and vanilla musk creates a soft, romantic ambiance, and I am officially on the hunt for a bottle for spring.
Vaseline
Cocoa Butter Petroleum Jelly
Larsson is recognized for many things: her viral bedazzled looks, a vibrant tour wardrobe fitting her beach siren vibe, and her candidness online. An Instagram post from two weeks ago offers a glimpse into her bustling tour life, from nap selfies to hotel hangouts with friends, but what caught my attention was the shot of Vaseline’s Cocoa Butter Petroleum Jelly (after noting the clementine and burning incense stick, of course). A 7.5-ounce tub of this luxurious moisturizer retails for only $5 at Walmart, illustrating that simple essentials work well for anyone—even traveling celebrities.
Anastasia Beverly Hills
Magic Touch Blush Trio in Pink
If you’ve ever been curious about which pink blush Carthen uses to achieve her iconic bubblegum-pink cheeks… same! That was until I came across a post by her makeup artist, Kimora Milan, from a recent Barbie event at Coachella, where she mentioned in the caption that the bold pink hue was made possible by Anastasia Beverly Hills' Magic Touch Blush Trio in Pink. These cream blushes offer effortless blending and buildable coverage, making it easy to achieve a vibrant look like Carthen’s.
Biologique Recherche
Silk Plus
Laura Harrier consistently embodies my glam aspirations, and this French skincare brand might be the key to her flawless skin. The model and actress recently shared an image of her Biologique Recherche skincare haul on her story, including the barrier-protecting Silk Plus
