Kylie, Lisa, and Hailey are all fans of this skin-smoothing K-Beauty tool, so I decided to test it for 79 days.
You’ve probably come across it on TikTok. Perhaps you noticed it in Kylie Jenner's GRWM, Hailey Bieber’s skincare prep for a shoot, in a Coachella photo dump (thanks to Blackpink's Lisa), or featured on Olive Young's best-sellers list (the largest beauty retailer in Korea). A multitude of skincare enthusiasts are raving about it, attributing their radiant, smooth, and sculpted skin to it. The product in question is Medicube's Age-R Booster Pro. Favored by celebrities, facialists, and selective editors alike, this viral, multifunctional device appears almost too good to be true, but it's typical for a Korean brand to exceed expectations. K-beauty, after all, is famed for its innovative skincare breakthroughs. I’ve heard countless endorsements from fellow editors, but is the Booster Pro really as remarkable as everyone claims? After using it for 79 days, I’m ready to share my verdict.
What is the Medicube Booster Pro? The Medicube Booster Pro is a six-in-one skincare tool featuring electroporation technology to enhance the absorption of active ingredients, microcurrent to minimize fine lines, EMS to stimulate deep muscle layers and tighten the skin, electric-needle technology to refine pores, sonic vibration to boost circulation, and five LED colors to help reduce inflammation and support collagen production. It may sound overwhelming, and we’ll explore each setting shortly. For now, understand that you are effectively getting multiple high-quality skincare devices in one stylish unit for $220—a bargain considering some standalone tools (like microcurrent devices) can cost around $400.
The Booster Pro has four modes: Booster mode, MC mode, Derma Shot mode, and Air Shot mode. By pressing the "Mode" button, you can switch treatments. The small screen includes an automatic timer set for five minutes per mode; once the time is up, the device will turn off automatically unless you switch to the next mode. Each setting also has a strength level ranging from 1 to 5, which you can increase by pressing the Power button. The brand suggests starting at level 1 and then gradually increasing it as you feel comfortable. Don’t be deceived: Level 1 can be quite intense! To this day, I still use level 1 for some treatments.
What are the benefits? As mentioned, the Booster Pro includes four modes, each with distinct skincare benefits. Below, discover the perks of each setting in the order recommended by the brand.
Air Shot (Electric Needles): The electric-needle technology generates micro-holes in the pores to gently exfoliate and improve skin texture. It’s somewhat similar to microneedling, but rather than actual needles, it uses electricity to create these tiny pathways. These micro-holes not only facilitate better product absorption but also initiate the skin’s healing response, enhancing firmness and tightening pores. Because it creates micro-injuries in the skin, the brand recommends using this setting two to three times a week. When you do use the Air Shot mode, it should be the first step in your routine. After cleansing and drying your face, use the device head in an outward motion, concentrating on areas with enlarged pores (primarily the T-zone). You should feel slight pricks, but nothing too painful.
Booster (Electroporation): Next is the Booster mode, which can be used daily (up to three times a day, according to the brand!). This mode employs electroporation, utilizing brief electrical pulses to form temporary micro-channels in the skin—similar to the previous electric-needle technology, albeit less aggressive. These temporary pathways allow active ingredients to penetrate more deeply into the pores, yielding faster, more effective results. (Fun fact: Medicube previously sold a standalone electroporation device called the Age-R Booster-H, which is still available on Amazon.) After applying your chosen serum or moisturizer (the PDRN Pink Peptide Serum works wonderfully for this), simply glide the device across your skin in circular motions until the product is fully absorbed.
MC (Microcurrent): I probably don’t need to elaborate much here! If you’re familiar with microcurrent devices, you know this technology acts as a workout for your face, stimulating the underlying facial muscles and boosting cellular energy. Those energized cells can synthesize collagen, repair damage, and perform vital functions for skin health. Consequently, the skin appears firmer and more toned with reduced fine lines. However, here’s the catch about microcurrent: You need a conductor gel to ensure the electrical current can effectively travel through the skin. Not with the Booster Pro. The microcurrent setting operates with the skincare you already use, provided it allows for easy glide. Apply a hydrating moisturizer (I find gel-creams work best in this case) and use the device in slow upward and outward motions for lifting.
Derma Shot (EMS): Lastly, we have the Derma Shot mode, which uses EMS technology (elect
