As Formula One increasingly influences American culture, it is also becoming a more inclusive environment for women, from racing styles to executive positions. For Susie Wolff, the managing director of F1 Academy, racing has always been integral to her journey. Wolff boasts one of the most inspiring careers in motorsport, evolving from a passionate young driver to a prominent advocate for women in the sport.

Her love for racing sparked at an early age. She began kart racing at just 8 years old, with her sights set on F1. By 2001, she had begun her career in professional racing. Following a brief period in British Formula Three, she spent seven years competing in the esteemed DTM German touring car series, refining her abilities against top contenders. Her aspiration to join F1 came true in 2012 when she became a development driver for Williams. The next year, she joined the team full-time, and in 2014, Wolff made history as the first woman in 22 years to take part in an F1 race weekend at the British Grand Prix. This achievement highlighted her skill and determination within a male-dominated environment.

After retiring from professional racing in 2015, Wolff changed direction. She co-founded the Dare to Be Different initiative aimed at encouraging future generations of female racers. She then transitioned into team management, serving as team principal and later CEO of Venturi, demonstrating her expertise extended well beyond racing.

In 2023, Wolff was named managing director of F1 Academy, a women-only racing series focused on developing female talent and enhancing diversity within motorsport. Her leadership is pivotal in opening opportunities for aspiring drivers globally.

Recently, Wolff has also become an author with her debut book, Driven, which outlines her extraordinary shift from the racetrack to the boardroom. The memoir provides honest reflections on the challenges, successes, and lessons encountered throughout her groundbreaking career.
