Ralph Lauren established his eponymous brand nearly sixty years ago in 1967, initially focusing on neckties that transformed the conventional styles of the era through colorful, luxurious, and handcrafted designs. In 1972, just five years later, he introduced his first complete womenswear line, inspired by his wife and muse, Ricky Lauren. Over the subsequent 59 years, Ralph Lauren has emerged as one of the most significant American fashion designers—an innovative risk-taker who epitomizes aspirational style and living, enabling countless individuals to envision themselves within his interpretation of the American Dream. Today marks the launch of Ralph Lauren: Catwalk, a publication that showcases over 100 womenswear collections and 1,300 runway looks from the brand’s archives. It spans from Lauren’s inaugural collection in the fall of 1972 to his fall 2025 lineup, documenting more than five decades of womenswear presentations. Released by Thames & Hudson, this book is the first American fashion house to be featured in the esteemed Catwalk series. Written by acclaimed fashion journalist Bridget Foley, it provides a visual timeline of Ralph Lauren’s runway history while offering a keen analysis of his influence on fashion and style. Foley emphasizes his groundbreaking cinematic approach to fashion and design, presenting Lauren as a master storyteller whose worlds are revealed through each collection. She also examines the seemingly contradictory aspects of his work—the interplay of rugged and refined, masculine and feminine—that have shaped his signature aesthetic defining American style.
