Notice: Individuals in Copenhagen Are Currently Sporting These Timeless, Anti-Trend Ensembles
From the moment I came into the world, I've had a passion for fashion. However, it wasn’t until 2021, when I embarked on my journey as a fashion writer and delved deeply into the industry, that I discovered the lifestyle of the most fashionable individuals in Copenhagen. This sparked a desire in me to visit, and I finally fulfilled that dream this past April. To mark my 30th birthday, I traveled to Copenhagen with my mom to soak in the city’s majestic architecture, warm ambiance, and distinctive Danish fashion, which I focused on the most. As we strolled through Nyhavn, Frederiksberg, and Nørrebro, I attentively observed the streets for stylish Scandinavian women to see what they wore. With my background in studying Copenhagen's street style and writing extensively about it, I anticipated seeing a lot of colors and patterns, practical and comfortable clothing, and many flats, particularly sneakers, since cycling is the main mode of transportation. Indeed, I witnessed a great deal of this. I also gathered plenty of outfit inspiration for how I want to dress this summer: classic and sophisticated. Outfits often featured elegant wardrobe essentials, like a strapless maxi dress paired with flip-flops and trousers combined with a one-piece swimsuit.
If you're aligned with the summer style you're aiming for and seeking inspiration, continue reading. Although I don’t have photos of the exact outfits I spotted in Copenhagen, I found five similarly stylish early summer looks from locals, which I’m sharing below. They’re meant to be saved, pinned, and recreated using items you already have.
1. Strapless Maxi Dress + Colorful Sandals
Fashion-savvy individuals with a classic sense of style are aware that a strapless dress in a neutral hue is a must-have for summer wardrobes. Whether you're going to the beach, on a coffee date, or to the office (just add a cardigan or blazer), this dress style is universally flattering and suited for any occasion. To modernize the look, pair it with colorful sandals in a timeless design, like thong sandals or slides. Complete the ensemble with a wooden-beaded tote or a raffia clutch, and you’ll create a look that will make everyone think you’ve hired a stylist. Shop the outfit:
Free People: Onda Drop-Waist Tube Midi Dress
Reformation: Amelia Flat Thong
Commando: Classic Strapless Maxi Slip
ZARA: Flat Leather Sandals
2. Quarter-Sleeve Tee + Miniskirt + Wedges
The Scandinavian-approved way to flaunt some skin this summer is with a miniskirt. To maintain balance with the shorter hem, choose relaxed yet polished items like a quarter-sleeve tee. This style is favored by chic individuals such as Hailey Bieber and offers more coverage than a typical short-sleeve shirt. As for footwear, skip the sneakers or flats and opt for open-toe wedges with a modest heel that adds a bit of height while maintaining an airy summer vibe. Shop the outfit:
FLORE FLORE: Steffi Ribbed Organic Cotton-Jersey T-Shirt
Reformation: Carla Low Waist Skirt
Steve Madden: Selest Wedge Slide Sandal
Babaton: Jewel Linen Skort
3. Maxi Dress + Sneakers
Forget the standard sandals with a flowing maxi dress. Copenhagen's trendsetters demonstrate that sleek sneakers are the most stylish pairing. Consider classic styles like Adidas Sambas and Tokyos, or newer options like Dries Van Noten's Leather Ballerina Sneakers and Miu Miu's satin sneakers. Shop the outfit:
ZARA: Fluid Halter Volume Midi Dress
adidas: Tokyo Low Top Sneaker
COS: Tiered Gathered Midi Dress
JIL SANDER: Suede-Trimmed Satin Sneakers
4. Strapless Top + Balloon Pants + Flip-Flops
Trust me, easy yet fashionable summer outfits in 2026 will include balloon pants with either wide hems or a cinched ankle. These airy pants will keep you cool, while their voluminous design adds an elegant touch. The ideal footwear choice is elevated flip-flops, paired with a fitted top like a tube top to balance the pants' volume. Shop the outfit:
Aritzia: Casual Contour Appeal Tube Top
5. Button-Down Shirt + One-Piece Swimsuit + Trousers
Bikinis are fashionable, but the savviest choice is a one-piece, especially sporty designs with a square or slightly scooped neckline. Following the example of Copenhagen-based digital creator Anna Sarlvit, wear yours with a lightweight button-down shirt and trousers. This outfit seamlessly transitions from the beach to the bar to shopping downtown. Shop the outfit:
Quince: 100% European Linen Shirt in White
BURBERRY x Hunza G: Faye Checked Original Crinkle Swimsuit
J.Crew: Luna Pant in Cotton Poplin
