A few years ago, the beauty industry underwent a significant transformation as both brands and consumers recognized the necessity of promoting beauty from within, demonstrating that our internal health significantly impacts our appearance. A prime example of this is Nutrafol. As a leading innovator in haircare, Nutrafol centers its brand and effectiveness on promoting hair growth internally. Chief Medical Advisor Heather Woolery-Lloyd, MD, FAAD, spearheads the brand’s innovative efforts.

Woolery-Lloyd began her career as a dermatologist and joined the University of Miami faculty as the director of skin of color, where she concentrated on meeting the unique dermatological needs of patients with darker skin tones—an often overlooked aspect in medical education and research. While developing her clinical practice, she recognized a significant gap in skincare solutions and launched Specific Beauty, a specialized skincare line aimed at women of color dealing with hyperpigmentation.

To broaden her influence, Woolery-Lloyd obtained board certification in lifestyle medicine, incorporating holistic methods into dermatology. She also created DermFriends, an easily accessible online resource offering clear solutions for common skin issues. Through DermFriends, she empowers individuals with knowledge to effectively handle everyday dermatological challenges.

In 2025, Woolery-Lloyd became part of Nutrafol, a premium hair-growth supplement brand recommended by dermatologists. Nutrafol sets itself apart as the first and only supplement to achieve NSF Certified for Sport status, recognized as the highest standard in third-party quality and safety testing. In her role as chief medical advisor, Woolery-Lloyd is crucial in promoting the brand’s commitment to hair health through rigorous scientific research, comprehensive education, and strong advocacy.

Outside of her corporate role, Woolery-Lloyd stays actively involved in academia and global outreach, engaging in cutting-edge research, mentoring medical students and residents, and delivering lectures around the world on dermatology for people of color. Her diverse approach combines clinical practice, product development, and public education, making significant advancements in inclusive dermatological care.

Tune into the latest episode of Second Life to discover how Woolery-Lloyd is transforming the fields of dermatology and haircare, and keep scrolling to shop our top Nutrafol products.
