      If you have been a fan of Alexa Chung for a long time, you might recall her frequently wearing a pair of shoes known as Carel’s Kina during the “indie-twee era.” Years later, Olivia Rodrigo was spotted wearing a pair as well. Curious about the brand's origins, I began to research it. Carel was established in 1947 when Georges and Rosa Carel opened their first women’s shoe store in Paris. Their aim was to produce shoes that combined comfort with elegance, primarily featuring a heel less than two inches high, which I find incredibly appealing.

      In 1974, they introduced the Marquis—a flat-heeled ballerina shoe adorned with a bow, reminiscent of an opera slipper. As their collection expanded, they garnered a following of celebrity admirers, including actress Isabelle Huppert. Then, in 2010, the much-loved Kina, which features a triple strap and a 1.6-inch heel, made its debut. The timeless silhouette remains a top seller and continues to evolve its designs.

      I decided to try the Carlotta, and as soon as I slipped them on, I exclaimed to my partner, “These are beautiful, gorgeous, and perfect.” They truly feel like the ultimate shoe. I was pleasantly surprised by how luxuriously soft and comfortable the leather is, which the brand describes as feeling like “a second skin.” The shape also feels particularly feminine and stylish.

      Other styles that drew my interest include two stunning new arrivals, ideal for vacation: the Acai heels and Piscine sandals, both embellished with tropical flower appliqués—a popular trend for spring/summer 2026. More in tune with my personal taste are the Emilie and Princesse styles, along with my dream fall boot, the Starter boots.
