In this episode, we delve into business casual: understanding its meaning (because, yes, it can seem contradictory). Keep reading to discover what to wear, what to avoid, and some great shopping suggestions. What Is Business Casual? My take on business casual? It's a professional appearance that strikes a balance—smart yet not overly formal. I believe there are five key items essential for everyone's wardrobe. Essentially, if you combine any three of these pieces along with other styling elements, you'll be set. Think blazer, button-up shirt, polished bottoms (dark-wash jeans, trousers, or a midi skirt), a cardigan or lightweight sweater, and leather footwear (loafers, flats, or low heels).
You'll notice one wardrobe essential I don't include in my business casual capsule: sneakers! While it's true that sneakers can be dressed up and may appear suitable for a more casual office environment, I personally feel that a traditional business casual attire does not incorporate sneakers.
