Inside the Luxury Retreat in Mexico That’s Just One Year Old and Where All the Fashion Girls Are Currently Enjoying Their Vacation

Welcome to Fashion's Finest Stays, a travel series where we provide a fashion editor's perspective on the hospitality industry. Here, you will gain exclusive insights into some of the world's most prestigious hotels and resorts, revealing every detail you might want to know prior to making a reservation. Luxury travelers are more challenging to impress than ever before. Expectations now include farm-to-table dining, exceptional service, a wealth of amenities, and the unique ability to feel like the sole guest. The fashionable hotels generating excitement in 2026 aren't merely excelling in one aspect—they are providing remarkable experiences across the board. This is precisely why Rosewood Mandarina has become the latest fascination among fashion enthusiasts and seasoned travelers.

Nestled along Mexico's Pacific coast in the Riviera Nayarit, about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta International Airport, Rosewood Mandarina sits on a sprawling 565 acres that balance grandeur with a sense of intimacy. Rather than a conventional resort experience, it feels more like an exclusive enclave. It unfolds within a verdant landscape where the jungle, beach, and mountains meet, creating an environment that makes every mile traveled to reach it worthwhile.

Having opened in April 2025, it remains relatively untouched by the masses. Fortunately, I had the chance to visit at the end of May and quickly recognized its allure—it truly has it all. My world-class experience commenced as soon as I arrived. A private driver welcomed me at the airport and escorted me through the gates (with tight security, which helped me feel secure). I was greeted with a traditional tejuino (a beverage that blends pineapple and fermented corn) in a beautiful ceramic cup—a thoughtful start to my three-night stay marked by warm hospitality, local culture, and careful attention to detail. Continue reading to discover more about the pampering and endless experiences offered at Rosewood Mandarina, along with the top summer fashion travel trends I packed.

Upon arrival at Rosewood Mandarina, the first thing you'll notice is the sensation of stepping into a world of its own—set between mountains cloaked in rainforest and the sea. An immediate sense of tranquility envelops you, grounding you in nature and setting the stage for a restorative and enchanting stay. Following a smooth check-in, you will meet your personal butler, who will be your point of contact throughout your visit. Whether you need assistance with dinner reservations, booking excursions, ordering room service, or arranging a bath for your evening relaxation, they are there to help. Afterward, your butler will guide you on a tour of the property, starting with an explanation of how Rosewood Mandarina embraces Mexican culture through art and design.

The cultural influences are readily apparent. In the lobby, the roofing and walls are crafted from materials reminiscent of ropes, inspired by the looms used by Indigenous people to weave clothing. Intricate Huichol beadwork, known as "chaquira," is also featured, each bead meticulously placed. Throughout the resort, you will find vibrant murals, stamped linen canvases, and beaded animal figures created by artists rooted in Mexico with strong ties to the Pacific Coast. Additionally, Rosewood Mandarina honors Mexican heritage at The Artisan Boutique, located on the beach, showcasing a curated collection of Mexican ceramics, woven vessels, textiles, and authentic crafts that reflect the region's textures and traditions.

After exploring the lobby, you will be transported to your suite or villa via a private golf cart. You'll soon notice that the design of the property prioritizes guest privacy. While some accommodations share a structure, each has its own entrance and walkway. I resided in a Flatland Suite on the property’s lowest flat area, while options also include ocean-view mountain suites, poolside suites, and mountain villas. Regardless of the type, each accommodation is equally picturesque and spacious, complete with a private plunge pool, bathtub, outdoor shower, terrace, and butler service.

If you're wondering whether I'd come back, the answer is a resounding yes. Rosewood Mandarina truly offers everything, making three nights a sufficient but not ample amount of time to spend there.

Rosewood Mandarina caters to both relaxation seekers and adventure enthusiasts. Guests can arrange guided hikes through the rainforest to encounter the ancient tree known as La Abuela, zip-line through the jungle, surf on the Pacific coast, or participate in tennis or pickleball lessons. The property boasts a nine-hole par-three course, complete with an additional challenge hole. The polo and equestrian center is particularly noteworthy, offering horseback riding and polo lessons, as well as trail rides leading to the beach, where you might witness a polo tournament. Additionally, cooking and cocktail-making classes are available.

During my visit, I took part in a cooking class that I wholeheartedly recommend. It was hands-on, as I learned how to prepare homemade corn tortillas using a roller and a tortilla press. I also crafted guacamole and salsa using a molcajete (a hand-carved volcanic rock tool). The
