V INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL "ONE SIXTH" ANNOUNCES DATES AND OPENS APPLICATIONS FOR COMPETITION PARTICIPATION

MOSCOW, June 8 - The Sverdlovsk Film Studio announces the dates for the International Film Festival of Debut Films of the Eurasian Continent "One Sixth". The V anniversary festival will take place from August 29 to September 3, 2026, in Yekaterinburg with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Sverdlovsk Region, and the Innovative Cultural Center of the Sverdlovsk Region.

The competition program will include 12 Russian and 12 foreign debuts. The films will be selected by program directors: film critic Yegor Moskvitin (feature films) and Maria Gotlib, curator of the documentary film competition. The jury will choose winners in 9 nominations: "Grand Prix" for both feature and documentary competitions; "Best National Feature Debut"; "Best National Documentary Debut"; "Best Foreign Feature Debut"; "Best Foreign Documentary Debut"; "Best Acting Ensemble"; "Best Debut at the Festival"; "Audience Choice Award".

Applications for participation in the competition can be submitted until July 10, 2026, on the official festival website.

In addition to screenings, guests can look forward to discussions with directors, round tables, open lectures, master classes, and analyses of examples of sustainable and successful collectives. How they build their economy, what principles they are based on, how they develop themselves, and how they see their mission.

As part of the festival, an educational block will also be conducted again: in script and acting laboratories, emerging filmmakers will gain practical skills under the guidance of experienced mentors.

If last year's main theme was AI, then the defining context of the anniversary festival is one word - collective. The creators are convinced that "people make the difference." The president of "One Sixth," Evgeny Grigoriev, explains the choice this way: "Today, the film industry is often built around a project. Quickly gathered, shot everything, and dispersed. The common memory, the shared experience of victories and defeats remains neglected. That rare state when people on set start thinking together. Scientists from around the world say that we survived as a species precisely because we collaborated, not competed. A sustainable collective is always stronger than a temporary one, economists say. It is such collectives that once created the powerful Soviet cinema and the Ural school of documentary filmmaking. And the fifth festival "One Sixth" aims to reduce the deficit of a vision for the future in cinema."

For residents and guests of Yekaterinburg, participation is free; it is enough to register on the festival's website. Registration will open the day before. Follow the news at - https://onesixth.ru/
