This garment, worn by fashion icons such as Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and Kate Moss, and showcased on the runways of Calvin Klein, Miu Miu, and Ralph Lauren, became one of the most lasting silhouettes of that decade. Considering my appreciation for minimalist attire and timeless pieces, I was surprised to realize that I didn't already have one. Silk, alongside cotton, is among the most breathable fabrics for warm weather, making a silk slip dress an excellent summer investment—one that I was eager to add to my collection. When I began looking, I immediately thought of the Australian brand Silk Laundry.
Launched in 2015, the brand arose from the founder's fascination with '90s slip dresses during her youth, and their very first creation was aptly titled the '90s Slip Dress. It embodies everything I was after: understated, lived-in, and form-fitting, perfectly capturing the effortless chic of that time. For the summer, it stands out as the easiest dress to throw on and go, whether paired with ballet flats, kitten-heel sandals, or my Worishofer wedges.
