Love has a charming way of making even the largest cities feel intimate. When Karoline Spenning, the chief creative director of Siegelman Stable, relocated from Norway to New York City, she entered uncharted territory. She had never visited the city previously, knew nearly no one, and was starting fresh. However, just weeks after her arrival, a serendipitous introduction through her coworker-turned-roommate brought Max Siegelman, the CEO and founder of Siegelman Stable, into her life, ultimately leading to their marriage.

Their romance blossomed during the pandemic through long text conversations that crossed state lines while Siegelman was temporarily residing with his family upstate. When he returned to the city, he made an unplanned visit to Spenning's apartment. "I biked to the gym and thought I'd drop by Karoline's place," Siegelman reminisces. "I showed up sweaty from working out, but to be honest, I would have been sweaty no matter what because I was nervous." Spenning considered this a bold gesture and replied, "Sure, come say hi."

This spontaneous visit became a pivotal moment for Spenning. Although the two had yet to go on an official first date, she felt that their relationship was already taking shape. "It was love at first sight," she admits. "I saw him and thought, 'Oh my God, this is my person.' I couldn't sleep. I couldn't eat." The feeling was reciprocal. Just three days later, they shared their first formal date over coffee in Tompkins Square Park, followed by dinner in the East Village the next night. From that point on, they were nearly inseparable. Four months later, they moved into Siegelman's Brooklyn apartment and began crafting both their life together and Siegelman Stable, his fashion label that combines luxury sportswear with harness racing, which he had launched shortly before meeting Spenning. What started as a side venture soon evolved into a collaborative endeavor, with the couple expanding the business alongside their relationship.

When it came to engagement, there was never any doubt about if it would happen—only when. Confident they had found their lifelong partners, they took their time before Siegelman sought the assistance of a mutual friend who was a jeweler to help source the perfect ring. The result was a vintage cushion-cut diamond, aligning beautifully with Spenning's values of sustainability and heirloom pieces. Although they never formally discussed a proposal, Spenning sensed it was on the horizon.

Siegelman informed Spenning that he had booked an upstate house for them to enjoy over the weekend. "Max is very bad at keeping secrets," she jokes. "So I knew something was up." During a relaxed morning at their Airbnb, the couple savored coffee and homemade Norwegian waffles. It was then that Siegelman initiated his plan. Unbeknownst to Spenning, a photographer was concealed in the woods while flowers were arranged around the property. However, the proposal did not unfold as planned. "I had a whole speech prepared," Siegelman reveals. "But when the moment arrived, I couldn't form any words. I just got down on one knee and cried."

In May 2026, the couple convened their nearest family and friends in southeastern Sicily to celebrate a new chapter in their love story. They exchanged vows on the sun-kissed grounds of Dimora delle Balze, an elegant and secluded 19th-century masseria-turned-boutique hotel. Continue reading to explore how each detail—from the bespoke fashion designed by Spenning to the casual yet romantic aesthetic—beautifully captured the life they have built and will continue to create together.

Max Siegelman: "Friday night marked the welcome dinner. The dress code was 'earth tones.'"

Karoline Spenning: "Our guests traveled quite a distance, so we aimed for a laid-back atmosphere on Friday night, with our outfits and all other elements reflecting that."

KS: "I designed a dress for Friday that I loved, but it didn't feel as relaxed and loose as I desired. Then I discovered a dress by Kettel Atelier, a designer who stitches vintage crochet tablecloths together. My immediate thought was, 'I need to buy this and have it expedited because my wedding is in a week.' I ended up wearing it, and it was perfect. I completed the look with some fabulous crochet Magda Butrym heels. I didn't have any jewelry for Friday, but while walking past a little market in Noto, I found a pair of bone earrings and wore those
