      Residing in New York City, I soon discovered there are several popular spots for relaxing weekend getaways that are within a reasonable distance—locations where New Yorkers retreat for a different pace of life. Naturally, we are all familiar with the Hamptons and the towns of Hudson or Beacon upstate; they are well-known. Other renowned spots include the Poconos in Pennsylvania, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, the Cape, and the Berkshires in Massachusetts. However, when I initially relocated here years ago, I was unaware of the lesser-known gems located on the North Fork of Long Island. While the Hamptons can be found on the South Fork, consisting of East Hampton and part of Southampton, the North Fork is a 30-mile peninsula filled with picturesque towns, featuring the delightful coastal village of Greenport. With many influencers drawn to Surf Lodge in Montauk, the North Fork presents a quieter, often overlooked alternative. If you're considering a getaway from the city, here’s my guide to Greenport, which includes my favorite dining and shopping spots, as well as packing tips.

      **Greenport's Most Stylish Hotel**

      As I organized my trip, there was one place I was determined to stay: The Sound View. This waterfront hotel boasts a private beach, my first destination after checking in and setting my bags down. Although I haven't yet visited the French Riviera (it’s definitely on my wishlist), I imagined this to be what it feels like—an intimate and serene pebble beach. I was quickly lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves, awakening fully refreshed. The property offers everything one might need: a pool, a restaurant and bar, complimentary bicycles, and a thoughtfully curated gift shop selling items like Only Hearts pajamas, Flamingo Estate candles, and Garrett Leight sunglasses. From the hotel, it’s just a short drive to a very pedestrian-friendly downtown area brimming with shops and restaurants within a square mile, not to mention the beautiful 67 Steps Beach. Whether you wish to spend your entire stay relaxing at the hotel or prefer to explore the surroundings, both options are available. I traveled via the Hampton Jitney from Midtown, which took fewer than three hours, but you could also take the Long Island Rail Road or drive. I managed perfectly without a car, getting around using Uber.

      **Dining in Greenport**

      My favorite meal during the trip was dinner at The Halyard, the hotel's restaurant. I had both the chicken and trout, and each was fabulous. The chocolate cake and cookies for dessert were also delightful. With The Halyard (recently offering brunch on weekends), poolside options at Jack's Shack, and room service, you could easily enjoy your entire culinary experience right there. If you wish to explore, there are places for breakfast and lunch like Pip’s Café & Provisions, Nookies, and Bruce & Son. For dinner, consider Noah’s, Ellen’s on Front, 1943 Pizza Bar, or American Beech. For oyster lovers, Little Creek Oyster Farm & Market is a highlight, while Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices of Greenport serves my favorite ice cream, and the Greenport Farmers Market operates on Saturdays. In nearby towns, I recommend North Fork Table & Inn, which runs a weekend food truck offering smash burgers and lobster rolls, and Southold Social for farm-to-table options. For casual, fresh seafood, check out Braun Seafood Co. and Southold Fish Market. Other notable mentions include North Fork Roasting Co., Country Corner Cafe, and Little Fish. For a day trip, the ferry to Shelter Island is a great option. You can grab breakfast at Stars Cafe or unwind in an Adirondack chair with stunning views at The Pridwin hotel while dining at The Terrace restaurant. The bar scene at Sunset Beach Hotel overlooking Crescent Beach is lively, and the Marie Eiffel Market offers a French-inspired café, bakery, and market for beach snacks or dockside dining.

      **Packing Tips for Greenport**

      In theory, a two-night getaway shouldn't require much packing, yet I always seem to overpack. If I had to narrow down my suitcase for a weekend beach trip, I would opt for my Cou Cou Intimates dresses. For swimwear, I've enjoyed wearing my jewel-toned green Baserange one-piece paired with a Fella Swim sarong. My Los Angeles Apparel jelly flats have been my favorite shoes since they work well on or off the beach. I always carry a claw clip for my hair and a hat for sun protection.
