Introducing: Devon Lee Carlson's Latest Collaboration with Frankies Bikinis
As soon as I noticed Devon Lee Carlson's post about her new collaboration with Frankies Bikinis, I knew I had to shop quickly before it sold out at the highly awaited launch on August 4. Carlson, who has been a long-time friend of Frankies Bikinis founder Francesca Aiello, has often been spotted in the L.A. brand’s swimwear over the years, making their collaboration a natural fit. The collection, titled Sunshine Girls, embodies the cheerful, sunny style Carlson is known for. Drawing inspiration from their personal wardrobes and a shared passion for vintage fashion, the capsule features vintage-inspired designs that pay homage to the 1950s, 1970s, and early 2000s, including Frankies' first-ever pair of low-rise jeans. The designs showcase a blend of floral patterns, stripes, chiffons, silks, and sequins. Even as someone who typically prefers minimalist styles, I'm drawn to a leopard slip that’s causing me to rethink my feelings about animal prints.
"We aimed to create pieces for our dream closet—those clothes you see in movies and wish you could wear when you’re older," Carlson stated in a press release. "It’s all included here. We explored our own closets for inspiration from our favorite vintage items. We want everyone to enjoy getting dressed up with friends and making the most of life. I hope everyone mixes and matches the bikinis, wears the dresses all night into the morning, and lives in these jeans daily. Designing this with my best friend has been incredibly rewarding, and we infused a lot of love into each piece. I hope everyone feels attractive, joyful, and vibrant in these outfits." Aiello added, "Working with Devon was genuinely special. As longtime friends, we share a bond that's hard to replicate. We aimed to craft a collection that represented us—complete with sunshine and dogs. We both explored our closets, uncovering our most cherished vintage pieces for inspiration. Bright colors, whimsical patterns, and retro silhouettes guided us in designing a collection rich with cheerfulness, joy, and high fashion influence."
