This bridal fashion designer donned a wedding dress inspired by Audrey Hepburn's Ascot gown from My Fair Lady.

      Their love story started almost ten years ago when they were introduced by a family member. "It was love at first sight," recounts Georgie Wright, co-founder of The Veil, recalling the beginning of her relationship with Charles Forte, her now-husband and the vice president of development at Rocco Forte Hotels. However, their romance wasn’t the typical whirlwind affair. "We spent a few years acting uninterested and playing it cool," she explains. "Somehow that approach worked."

      After being together for eight years, the couple visited Mustique, a private Caribbean island home to select celebrities and royals. Shortly after their arrival, they got engaged. “The proposal happened on New Year’s Eve 2024 in our hotel room after breakfast,” says Wright. Forte was nervous and sweating as he struggled to stay composed. “That gave it away quickly,” she notes. “But it was simple, incredibly sweet, and very us.” The engagement ring is an antique cushion-cut diamond chosen by Wright. “I have always been fascinated by the character of old-cut stones,” she explains. “Unlike modern diamonds, they were originally cut to shine by candlelight, giving them a softer, more romantic glow that I find beautiful.”

      The couple exchanged vows on April 24, 2026, at Villa Igiea in Palermo. "Choosing our venue was actually one of the easiest decisions," comments Wright. "Villa Igiea holds great significance for Charles and his family. His father, Sir Rocco Forte, established Rocco Forte Hotels, and Charles lived there during its reopening."

      Their two-day celebration reflected the grandeur of Sicily while being deeply personal. Invitations designed by Laura Graham of GG Print set the tone, featuring custom illustrations of Palermo landmarks, including Villa Igiea and Monreale Cathedral—the site of their ceremony—along with a delightful drawing of their miniature dachshund on the RSVP cards.

      To realize their design vision, they collaborated closely with friend and planner Anna Boglione, prioritizing the appreciation of the venues' remarkable architecture rather than overshadowing it. This emphasis was evident in Wright's choice of bridal attire. For the initial night, which featured the ceremony and dinner, she wore a gown inspired by Audrey Hepburn, designed by herself and paired with a custom ivory version of The Veil's signature Melt bag. Her outfit for the subsequent night featured another bespoke, hand-embellished gown crafted by Wright, elegantly layered with a fur-trimmed opera coat by London designer Viktor Gichev.       "I got ready at Villa Igiea with my nearest friends and family, which was one of the most meaningful aspects of the weekend. We played ‘Going to the Chapel’ by The Dixie Cups a few times…"

      "I contemplated having the dress specially made; however, after launching The Veil and gaining insight into embroidery, it felt wrong not to design it myself. The biggest inspiration was Audrey Hepburn's Ascot dress from My Fair Lady—a look I've adored since childhood."

      "I incorporated a deeply significant family heirloom: a veil belonging to Charles’s family. I photocopied every flower from the veil and re-created my own embroidery pattern based on those floral designs. Once the embroidery was finished, I made several trips to our embroidery factory in India to perfect every minute detail. The final dress took about four months to create and was adorned with thousands of tiny ivory and glass beads that shimmered like diamonds."
