It girls in London and Paris concur: this classic top trend elevates the style of jeans, shorts, and skirts.

      Occasionally, I encounter a trend that has, more often than not, gone by me with hardly a notice. A moment that you might miss in the blink of an eye. That almost happened with the Henley T-shirt. Upon noticing the style subtly appearing in my social media feed this summer, I found myself liking, smiling, and then scrolling on each time. After all, a Henley doesn't exactly feel like a trend. Easily recognized by its collarless design and neat vertical button placket, it has long been a staple in wardrobes, one that women "borrowed from the boys" in the ‘80s and made popular with the help of Ralph Lauren.

      However, when I think of the simple Henley, preppy Americana isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. For me, it’s the pop culture of the ‘00s that highlights its true charm. Just think of Bella Swan’s array of moody grey Henley tops in Twilight, the fitted thermals worn by Lorelai and Rory Gilmore in Gilmore Girls, and let’s not forget Lindsay Lohan post-"plastification" in Mean Girls.

      Exuding a quiet luxury with an understated affluent vibe during an era dominated by excess, the appeal of the Henley lies in its simplicity. With a relaxed yet refined feel, fashionable individuals are leaning towards this silhouette to craft a laid-back shape that feels inherently stylish. Whether paired with straight-leg jeans, lace-trimmed shorts, or a flowy skirt, the Henley enhances the outfit without overshadowing it.
