Let's keep this between us and my dry shampoo, but this lightweight option keeps my hair feeling so fresh.

Recently, I encountered a bit of a beauty conundrum. The issue is that I dislike washing my hair. I have exceptionally thick and long hair, which requires several hours for a wash and blow-dry. With the recent London heatwave, my roots have been becoming greasy much faster, prompting me to use dry shampoo more often to save time. However, I've come to realize that I don't particularly enjoy using it. I have tried various formulations available, but they all leave a residue in my hair that only makes me want to wash it more often. That was until I stumbled upon a dry shampoo mist. This lightweight version of traditional dry shampoo feels nearly undetectable in the hair and keeps my roots looking fresh and bouncy (along with a bit of texture spray, of course). After trying one, I was convinced. So much so that I've made it my goal to test many popular dry shampoo mists in the market. Keep scrolling to see my favorites and learn more...

What Is a Dry Shampoo Mist? So, what exactly is this product, and how is it different from regular dry shampoo? "[Dry shampoo] mists often feel weightless on the hair while still providing a light cleanse," says Hollie Rose Clarke, a top hairstylist and Living Proof stylist ambassador. "If you're looking for a more heavy-duty dry shampoo, you might prefer an aerosol format." While dry shampoo mists are suitable for all hair types (I personally find they work well with my thick hair), Clarke mentions they can be particularly beneficial for finer hair. "Those with fine hair might enjoy a mist over aerosol, as it feels lighter on the hair." Additionally, mists are more invisible and typically don't leave any residue.

How to Use a Dry Shampoo Mist While each product will come with specific instructions, I asked Clarke for her top tips on application. "As with all haircare, less is usually more, so I always advise starting with a small amount and building up if you need more coverage," Clarke explains. "Shake the bottle well, section your hair, and then spray directly onto the roots, holding the bottle four to six inches away from the hair. At first, the hair may seem slightly wet, but don't worry; it dries quickly when you massage the roots."
