Shh, don’t let my dry shampoo know, but this lightweight option ensures my hair stays incredibly fresh.
Recently, I faced a bit of a beauty conundrum. The issue is, I'm not a fan of washing my hair. I have thick, long locks, which means the process of washing and blow-drying can take several hours. With the recent heatwave in London, my roots have been getting greasy even faster, so I've been turning to dry shampoo more often to save time. However, I've come to realize that I don't particularly enjoy using it. I've tested many brands available, but they all leave a residue in my hair that makes me wish to wash it even more. That was until I came across a dry shampoo mist. This lightweight alternative to regular dry shampoo feels almost imperceptible in my hair and keeps my roots looking voluminous and fresh (along with a bit of texture spray, of course). Since trying one, I've completely switched gears. So much so that I've made it my mission to sample various popular dry shampoo mists out there. Keep reading to shop my favorites and learn more...
What Is a Dry Shampoo Mist? So, what exactly is this product, and how does it differ from traditional dry shampoo? "[Dry shampoo] mists typically feel weightless in the hair while still providing a light cleanse," explains Hollie Rose Clarke, a leading hairstylist and Living Proof stylist ambassador. "If you're looking for a more heavy-duty dry shampoo, you might prefer an aerosol type." While dry shampoo mists can be beneficial for all hair types (I find they work well for my thick hair), Clarke mentions they tend to be especially advantageous for finer hair. "Those with fine hair may prefer a mist over an aerosol, as it feels lighter in the hair." Additionally, mists are generally more invisible and don’t typically leave any residue.
How to Use a Dry Shampoo Mist While each product comes with its own specific usage instructions, I wanted to hear Clarke's top application advice. "As with most haircare products, less is often more, and I recommend starting with a small amount and building up if more coverage is needed," Clarke advises. "Shake the bottle well, section the hair, and spray directly at the roots, holding the bottle four to six inches away from the hair. Initially, the hair may seem slightly damp, but don't worry, as it dries quickly when you massage the roots."

2. Living Proof Sheer Clean Dry Shampoo Mist
Best for that freshly washed feeling Living Proof Sheer Clean Dry Shampoo Mist This new offering from Living Proof is the best dry shampoo mist for achieving that fresh-out-of-the-shower sensation. Similar to the previous option, it feels extremely lightweight and utilizes microspheres to soak up oil and sweat. I reach for it the day before washing my hair when I need my dry shampoo to work harder. Honestly, I’ve been really impressed since I started using it. Just a note: avoid spraying too much too close to the roots, as it may leave a bit of residue throughout the day.
