Backstage at the Miu Miu show in fall 1997, Mrs. Prada notably remarked, “Prada is who I am, and Miu Miu is who I aspire to be.” Fast forward 28 years, and this sentiment resonates more than ever. However, it’s not just Mrs. Prada who desires to embody the Miu Miu spirit—everyone around the globe yearns to be a Miu Miu girl. The Italian brand has surged in popularity since its micro miniskirt became an internet sensation in the spring 2022 collection, growing even more desired in the years that followed. Fashion enthusiasts everywhere envision their best selves through the characters Mrs. Prada consistently presents on the runway. A Miu Miu wearer is often a book lover, a tennis enthusiast, and someone bold enough to pair a swimsuit with a pleated skirt and multiple belts. They frequently feel the need to transform into another, ideally expected version of themselves, often cramming their bags with a change of outfit for after a hectic day.
Miuccia recognizes that, for some, being a woman involves the constant struggle of either shamefully confirming a stereotype or defiantly disproving one. Simply being can often feel insufficient. Miu Miu, however, offers a uniform that exudes an air of unconcern and freedom, capturing the sense of wonder and possibility that most of us experience only in childhood.
During the fall 2025 show held this morning in Paris, Mrs. Prada introduced yet another Miu Miu character: the quirky lady who enjoys long lunches. She is a familiar face in the neighborhood, known for her distinct personality, which is amplified by her unique style.
Stylist Lotta Volkova, who has curated recent Miu Miu shows, sat in the front row and articulated the vision for this season. She told System Magazine reporters, “We aimed to explore various interpretations of femininity and to amplify that feminine aspect of oneself.” This idea drove the selection of accessories, which varied from fuzzy stoles to small hats to sharply pointed bullet bras and oversized gold brooches. While some may see these accessories as symbols of womanhood, Mrs. Prada backstage expressed that she does not perceive them as clichés.
In her show notes, she noted, “There is a focus on feminine emblems—brooches, bracelets, necklaces, fur capes, and stoles. When these symbols are frequently reiterated, they grow bold and impactful, enhancing garments inspired by daily life and elevating them.”
Stoles dangled from models’ arms as if they were too nonchalant to wear them properly. Bags, as is customary at Miu Miu, were carried on the crooks of elbows, implying there was no time to drape them over shoulders. Little caps were worn askew, with long chandelier earrings swaying with each step.
For years, "quiet luxury" has been a constant buzzword, but it is not particularly representative of Miu Miu—something Mrs. Prada emphasized today. Miu Miu models showcased fitted skirt suits brimming with accessories, creating an eye-catching spectacle. These outfits are easily recognizable and made to make a statement without uttering a word. Society often pressures women to be subdued to seem more appealing, yet Mrs. Prada advocates for a loud expression—through vibrant sheer socks, chandelier earrings, and brooch-adorned fur stoles. There’s also the quirky “crazy old lady” trope, characterized by eclectic patterns, enduring fur coats, and ever-present pearls. Mrs. Prada demonstrates that embracing this aesthetic is achievable for everyone, and done fabulously, too.
In the show notes, Mrs. Prada articulated, “There is a tenderness. Focus is drawn to the décolleté, with tailored and draped dresses that reveal the body beneath.” This collection appeared to embody undone luxury, embracing a bold presence. Its allure carries a certain sexiness, imparting empowerment to those who appreciate the intricacies of femininity. As mentioned at the outset, the Miu Miu fall/winter 2025 collection serves as an “evaluation of the feminine.”
The Miu Miu x New Balance collaboration continues to impress, and the fall/winter 2025 collection introduces a new It sneaker that is sure to capture online attention once more. This time, the shoes sport colorful green and blue snake print patterns with laces casually undone. We’re predicting these will be a standout purchase of the year. What can we say? Mrs. Prada simply knows what we desire.
