Chanel Revisits Coco's Signature Styles for Fall 2025

The fall/winter 2025 Chanel show marked the first ready-to-wear collection since Matthieu Blazy's appointment as artistic director was announced in December, with the fashion world eagerly anticipating his debut later this year. This collection was revealed by the in-house Creation Studio, focusing on Coco Chanel's most iconic design elements. "The bow, the ribbon, the pearl, and the flower," the show notes stated. "The collection revisits some of the most beloved House signatures." The runway show reflected the essential essence of the 115-year-old maison. Bows were crafted from sheer organza, detailed on delicate sock boots (which are expected to become a trend), and presented in new bag shapes. A ribbon inspired the set at the Grand Palais, featuring a large sculpture of a swirling black ribbon. Pearls were transformed into oversized jewelry, appearing as necklaces, bracelets, and bags. Camellia flowers adorned tweed suits and two-tone cardigans. While the Creation Studio returned to the French fashion house's roots, it raises the question of how Blazy will reinterpret the archives in his upcoming collections in the months ahead.       Inside the Grand Palais, after extensive renovations, Chanel returned to the Grand Palais in Paris last October for its S/S 25 collection and once again showcased its runway show in the iconic, sunlight-filled space beneath the glass ceiling of the beaux arts landmark. This season, a large sculptural black ribbon by Willo Perron was installed inside. The invitations included a delicate bow, a reference to house signatures like ribbons and bows that inspired the collection.

The Front Row included ambassadors and friends of the house who attended the fall/winter 2025 show dressed in complete Chanel ensembles. Among the notable attendees were Dakota Fanning in a matching gold leather pantsuit; Tyla in a coordinating top, skirt, and jacket in lilac; Charlotte Casiraghi in a tweed jumpsuit; and Who What Wear cover star Simone Ashley in a midriff-baring skirt suit.

Big Bows and Pearls! Tweed Suits and a Very Coco Palette! The Creation Studio encapsulated Chanel's most recognizable design elements for the fall/winter 2025 collection. Fresh interpretations of bows, ribbons, pearls, and tweed formed the heart of the maison's aesthetic. The color scheme was quintessentially Coco Chanel, featuring blacks, whites, creams, pinks, and burgundies that graced the runway at the Grand Palais. The show notes mentioned that these iconic elements were explored through "plays on scales of size, length, and proportion." This was evident in the oversized bows and shoes designed with a single pearl heel.

Similar to the previous ready-to-wear runway show for spring/summer 2025, the collection felt light and airy, with garments featuring delicate layers of chiffon and organza gracefully flowing down the runway. A crossbody bag resembling an oversized pearl necklace was whimsical and fun, complemented by a pair of models in coordinating outfits that added a playful touch. It was quintessentially Chanel and distinctly Coco.

The Chanel 25 Bag While numerous new handbags made their debut on the runway, the return of the Chanel 25 bag is particularly significant. First introduced in the brand's Cruise 2025 collection, the Chanel 25 bag is set to be one of the most anticipated handbag launches of the year when it arrives in stores this March. Dua Lipa has also joined as the face of the Chanel 25 handbag campaign. The quilted bag features a slouchy shape, chain straps, cargo pockets, and CC motifs throughout. Its presence in the fall/winter 2025 runway further solidifies it as a future classic for the fashion house.
