Uncovered: Individuals in These Professions Are Now Seen as the "Most Dateable"

If you still have a ‘type’ in 2025, I would kindly ask you to reconsider that approach. With dating apps dominating the scene and in-person meet-cutes becoming increasingly rare, it’s challenging enough without confining yourself to a specific kind of individual. When the trend of “looking for a man in finance” started circulating on TikTok, I was genuinely surprised by its popularity. It not only promoted an overly specific preference but also overlooked the multitude of other intelligent, motivated, and successful candidates in different professions. Have we not learned from unexpected couples like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce or Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet? Expanding your horizons might lead to delightful surprises.

A recent survey by The League found that both men and women believe the most “datable” careers have less to do with their financial rewards or the stereotypical appearance of the people in those roles—such as a tall finance guy with blue eyes and a trust fund. So, if you’re on the lookout for someone to sweep you off your feet or at least a person who can be wholesome enough to introduce to your family, we’re revealing which careers were considered the most dateable and how various professions are shaping the dating landscape today.

The influence of your career on your dating life

Most of us strive for a balance between work and life. However, our jobs can sometimes impact our personal lives—positively or negatively. Whether you’re clocking long hours and missing dinner at home or dealing with a stressful job that affects your mood more than you’d like to admit, work occupies a significant portion of our lives and can greatly influence our relationships.

I once convinced myself that dating a lawyer was out of the question simply because they “lie for a living.” I failed to account for the demands of their profession, which often involves long hours at the office preparing for cases and the pressure to ascend within their firm. Moreover, I didn’t consider how their enthusiasm for their work could be contagious or how motivated I could feel witnessing their efforts to make a positive impact in their community. Every job has its ups and downs, which are essential to keep in mind when dating someone.

“40 percent of respondents indicated they want their potential partners to have a passion for their work.”

In The League’s survey, 40% of respondents noted they seek potential partners who are passionate about their careers, alongside a desire for them to maintain a work-life balance (34%). This balance is delicate, to say the least. With these factors in mind, as well as considerations like finances, potential relocations, and overall safety, certain professions are perceived as more or less attractive by respondents.

The most dateable careers by industry

      1. Healthcare

Topping the list for the “most dateable” professions are careers in healthcare. This is attributed to the “financial security, intelligence, and caregiving” aspects inherent to these roles, as explained by Rachel DeAlto, Dating Expert at The League. Although these jobs can be stressful, healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and therapists are seen as the most desirable partners.

      2. Education

To all the teachers, aides, and tutors out there, take note! Individuals in education are characterized by their patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for learning and growth—qualities that make for great partners. Additionally, the typical work-life balance afforded by school schedules is a big plus. Imagine being able to plan summer trips together without fretting over time-off requests.

      3. Emergency response

Ranked third among the most dateable are firefighters, EMTs, and ER doctors and nurses, recognized for their courage, reliability, and bravery. Their ability to remain calm during crises, along with their compassion, can bring a sense of stability and trust to relationships.

“56 percent of respondents indicated it's important for their partner to share the same career values.”

      4. Law

Disregard my earlier comments about lawyers, as individuals in law enforcement (like police officers and detectives) made this list. While their jobs are high-pressure and often lengthy, they are seen as loyal, protective, and dedicated. You can count on them consistently, which is what truly matters.

      5. Business

People in business roles, such as marketing and sales, tend to be ambitious, financially solid, and effective communicators, which is a great combination. However, be aware that they might struggle to disconnect from work. If they find a way to balance their professional and personal lives (and avoid work calls during dinner), you may have found a winner.

      6. Science

Pharmacists, chemists, and researchers often don't receive adequate recognition. Their intelligence, problem-solving abilities, curiosity, and passion for learning make them the sixth most dateable group. Their careers generally provide stability and a good work-life balance, and their enthusiasm for discovery can lead to stimulating and engaging conversations.

      7. Tech

Those in tech, known for their problem-solving abilities and creativity, excel at addressing
