      What does dewy skin smell like? Technically, you would say it has the scent of whatever skincare products you've just applied (fair point), but let’s indulge in a bit of romance for a moment. Dewy skin evokes the image of a ripe piece of fruit, overflowing with juicy flavor; a mossy garden at dawn, sparkling with mist; or the subtle spray of a sea breeze. It feels clean and fresh yet somewhat abstract, I confess—until I spritzed Glossier You Fleur. What does dewy skin smell like? Ah, that’s it. Glossier You arguably transformed the modern scent landscape when it debuted in 2017, and I’d bet the brand’s first floral edition will create just as much excitement. Its dry-down is simply irresistible (more on that later), and it possesses a “fleshy” quality that is unlike any floral perfume I’ve encountered before. If you’re searching for a new scent for spring, I highly recommend trying this one. You’ll earn extra points if you wear it with a glossy, glowing complexion.

      What does Glossier Fleur smell like? Curiously, the first term that comes to mind when describing Fleur isn’t “floral.” It has a soft, powdery scent, thanks to the osmanthus and slightly creamy ylang-ylang. While those blooms are technically flowers, they possess a natural complexity. “From these flowers, I aimed to capture elements that could suggest suede, skin, and velvet, creating a fleshy and luminous quality,” says perfumer Dora Baghriche—who co-created the original Glossier You with Frank Voelkl—to Who What Wear. They certainly don’t shout spring flowers like a rose or jasmine would. Apricot skin adds a hint of sweetness, while cashmeran and ambrox bestow the fragrance with its “skin-like” quality. (The entire Impressions of You line is anchored by the latter, as this synthetic molecule emits a rich, amber warmth.) What I would describe as giving this fragrance a “dewy” feel is the mineral salt accord that you notice right away. It’s an “unexpected element in the floral realm,” Baghriche points out, but a common one in the world of skin scents. Salty fragrances, reminiscent of the ocean, lend your skin an intoxicating je ne sais quoi. Here, combined with gentle florals and woody musks, this note conjures images of shimmering, springtime skin. “It indicates surprise, and sometimes even a skin-like aroma [and] a rosiness to the skin—it’s an addictive aspect,” Baghriche adds. On my skin, that saline note stands out and enhances the amber essence beautifully.

      How it compares to other florals: Have you ever noticed that floral perfumes typically center around a specific theme? Some are tuberose-heavy, while others emphasize gardenia. Fleur, according to Baghriche, is “not a direct representation of a recognizable flower.” Allow her to elaborate. “Instead of relying on conventional references like rose or jasmine, the composition takes a more abstract route. Ylang-ylang brings a creamy depth, while osmanthus adds fruity and coppery notes. Together, they evoke the feeling of petals illuminated by light rather than a strict floral scent.” I mean… swoon. “Petals illuminated by light” is how I wish to smell every single day this spring (and beyond). Sure, other floral fragrances feature a bouquet of notes, but Fleur defies categorization. It is simultaneously coppery, salty, gourmand, and floral. “The intention was not to replicate a traditional floral but to explore an abstract floral experience through a play on textures and subtleties,” Baghriche continues. Picture smooth, velvety petals and fluffy tufts of pollen. “I wanted to convey the tactile quality of petals, creating a femininity that avoids being a cliché.” In other words, this isn’t your grandmother’s floral fragrance. It represents one of the most effortless and modern floral blends.

      My review and how I wear it: Baghriche is absolutely right about Fleur’s enchanting nature. I’ve been reaching for it every day since I received a pre-launch sample a few weeks ago, and not just because the creamy lavender bottle looks striking on my vanity. Folks, it makes me smell incredibly good. Delectable. Heavenly. Intoxicating. Dreamy. I can't find enough words to express my admiration. I always like to finish my beauty routine with a spritz of perfume, but this one is particularly perfect to wear just before heading out (ideally with naturally flushed, dewy skin).
