Sydney Sweeney Just Endorsed Chocolate Croc Nails (Along with a Coordinating Corset) for Spring
(Image credit: Getty Images/Emma McIntyre/WireImage) Rich, luxurious milk chocolate-colored nails are always in style (hello, Mocha Mousse!), but they are particularly sophisticated for spring. Why is that? Well, for starters, this earthy hue complements almost any pastel outfit you can imagine. (Butter yellow! Baby blue! Petal pink!) It also serves as a timeless, upscale alternative to classic black—you know, if you're looking to shake things up a bit. I can’t emphasize enough: a coat of chocolate lacquer is a foolproof choice this season. However, if you're wanting to add a creative twist, I suggest checking out Sydney Sweeney's latest nail design. Keep scrolling for the insights from her nail artist, Zola Ganzorigt.
At the 10th annual Hollywood Beauty Awards on Sunday, Sweeney supported her longtime hairstylist Glen "Coco" Oropeza (who went on to win the Sanna Seppanen Hairstyling Award) in a complete chocolate-brown outfit: a sleek pantsuit, a waist-cinching croc corset, and a manicure to match. It’s clear that Ganzorigt drew inspiration from the croc-embossed corset for her nail design on the red carpet. The manicure closely resembles the pattern, as evident in her Instagram carousel above.
Although Ganzorigt hasn't shared the precise tutorial for Sweeney's look, you probably only need a sheer base color (or blooming gel, which is a unique base coat that causes any color applied on top to spread across the nail) along with chocolate-brown nail polish. After applying your base, create uniform horizontal stripes across the nail plate, ensuring there's space between each column to achieve the crocodile-print effect. Allow it to dry again, then finish with your topcoat of choice.
Believe me, the technique sounds much more complicated than it actually is. In fact, I consider it one of the easiest animal prints to recreate, as it only requires a single polish color. (Unlike tortoiseshell nails, which need at least three colors.) You don’t even have to get each line perfectly straight to achieve the crocodile look. In fact, the effect appears even more stylish when the nails are mismatched.
If you think you're well-acquainted with nail trends, you might hesitate to wear a dark nail color in spring. However, I assure you that deeper shades like chocolate brown are absolutely trendy for the season. "It's an anti-trend," celebrity nail artist Julie Kandalec remarks about dark nail polish in spring. "It's saying, 'I know pastels are usually the trend, but I want to stand out.'" I would argue there's nothing more eye-catching than a chocolate croc manicure inspired by Sweeney.
