Advance: the main film magazine will name the best young actors
On April 18, as part of the 47th Moscow International Film Festival, the long-term partner of the festival, KinoReporter magazine, will traditionally hold a solemn ceremony of awarding its "Advance" award. One of the country's leading industrial publications celebrates promising young actors who have shown themselves most vividly on the screen.
Maria Lemesheva, the permanent host of the ceremony, editorial director and editor—in-chief of Kinoreporter, a well-known journalist and film critic, believes that the main mission of the magazine is to participate in the development of the Russian film industry and support those who are just starting their creative path.:
"We have never made a mistake in choosing the laureates, and they, in turn, fully justified their "Advance". The whole history of the award proves that our predictions are confirmed and those whom we celebrate turn into megastars. Today, the names of the winners of previous years are known to every viewer. These are really great, bright artists, and I am proud that we were able to notice them at the very beginning of their career, motivate them to new victories and achievements — this is what the award was created for. By supporting those who are just starting out, but are already showing great promise, we are stimulating the development of the entire Russian film industry. This year's award is already the 14th, and we are very pleased that the credibility of our award is growing year by year."
The award has been in existence since 2012, and its first recipient was Daria Melnikova. Last year, the crystal star of "Advance" became the first prestigious award for Anna Peresild, who won the hearts of the audience in the series "The Word of a Kid. Blood on the asphalt", and for Nizhny Novgorod resident Mark Edelstein, whom the whole world already knows today. Prior to them, the winners of the "Advance" were Milos Bikovic, Angelina Strechina, Tikhon Zhiznevsky, Aglaya Tarasova, Roman Kurtsyn, Irina Starshenbaum, Kuzma Kotrelev, Yulia Alexandrova, Danil Steklov, Elizaveta Ishchenko.
"It was very important for me to receive the Advance award last year, as it was the first high award for my first well-known, popular project, which people really liked. I think it is very important to support young artists with such awards, not only because it is pleasant, but also because it fuels motivation both in creativity and in the profession. I want to do even more, create, invent, in order to reach new heights," says Anna Peresild, winner of the last year's Advance Prize.
The winner of the "Advance" for 2019, Angelina Strechina, notes that the beginning of the journey requires a lot of effort and support plays an important role.:
"We all know how difficult it is to start, and such support is absolutely necessary. When you realize that the community believes in you, and people who know a lot about movies believe in you, it certainly helps a lot. Every further step is easier because you feel this support. I remember the shock when I got my crystal star. She became for me the confirmation that I am moving in the right direction and I will definitely succeed."
"I want to say thank you for the Advance award, which was given to me by the KinoReporter magazine in 2012. It is especially valuable that the award was given for his role in The Steel Butterfly. Such prizes are very stimulating and give motivation to move on. Many artists, especially young ones, are used to scolding themselves, and sometimes they lack just such a kind, sweet pill that supports and helps to believe in themselves," says actress Daria Melnikova.
The artist of the Moscow Art Theater agrees with his colleagues. Chekhov's Kuzma Kotrelev, who received his "Advance" for roles in the TV series "JUZZZ" and "Cafe Cuba":
"I received the award in 2023, it was very important to me, it gave me some understanding that I was seen and heard in the industry. I think it's a good tradition to reward young artists!"
Actor Roman Kurtsyn, who became a laureate in 2018, emphasizes that the award recognizes the most promising young artists and helps them reach a new level.:
"I remember when I was first invited to a white party, I wanted to refuse because I couldn't imagine myself among such important people. I never thought that I would get a prize! And of course, that it would play such an important role in my career. After the “Film Reporter” also published an interview with me and did a photo shoot, I was invited to several major projects. Some directors admitted that they decided to write a script for me just after they saw me on the pages of the magazine. Because almost everyone in the Film Reporter industry reads it."
The guests of the award ceremony in the past were Nikita Mikhalkov, Vladimir Medinsky, Alla Surikova, Andrey Konchalovsky, Sergey Garmash, Svetlana Druzhinina, Anatoly Mukasey, Alexey Rybnikov, Tatiana Vedeneeva, Sergey Shakurov, Svetlana Ivanova, Sergey Burunov, Valeria Guy Germanika, Zhora Kryzhovnikov, Alexey Uchitel, Sergey Chliyants, Natalia Mokritskaya, Igor Voloshin, Olga Kabo, Igor Mirkurbanov, Alexandra Ursulyak, Dmitry Astrakhan, Elena Podkaminskaya, Sergey Gazarov, Ekaterina Volkova, Dmitry Lysenkov, Anna Slyu, Evgeny Dyatlov, Elena Nikolaeva, Dmitry Dyuzhev, Artem Tkachenko, Katerina Shpitsa, Gosha Kutsenko, Olesya Sudzilovskaya, Alexey Kravchenko, Maria Andreeva, Kirill Zaitsev, Svetlana Toma Egor Beroev, Irina Grineva, Igor Zizhikin, Dina Korzun, Alexey Chadov, Ekaterina Guseva, Dmitry Pevtsov, Agnia Kuznetsova, Egor Koreshkov and many other famous Russian cinematographers.
