In true millennial fashion, I spend my days trying to match the coolness of my Gen Z colleagues. I admire their dedication to self-expression and experimentation—something that influences my morning outfit choices. Whether it's the newest social media trend or fashion aesthetic, Gen Z establishes the relevance for each season. With spring now in full swing (as my allergies attest), I reached out to my Gen Z coworker, fashion editor Sierra Mayhew, for her top three trends this season. Not only are her selections completely wearable, but they can all be found at Nordstrom (most priced under $100). Given the wearability and affordability of her signature spring styles, I'm fully convinced to embrace these specific trends. To discover what Gen Z is sporting this spring, continue reading.
On '70s-inspired style: "This aesthetic aligns perfectly with the current '70s revival, promoting effortless style through elements like denim, flowy blouses, and suede. I began with denim shorts as the foundation, then added a slightly sheer blouse for softness, topped it off with a contrasting jacket. The accessories tie everything together, bringing a modern twist to the '70s vibe." — Sierra Mayhew, fashion editor
- Edikted: Memphis Studded Faux Suede Jacket
- Treasure & Bond: Ruffle Peplum Top
- Free People: Now or Never Denim Shorts
- Aire: Fornax 53mm Oval Sunglasses
- Aldo: Jomali Ankle Strap Sandal
On Western trends and avoiding cowboy cosplay: "The Western aesthetic has definitely peaked, having been a leading fashion trend for several years. For me, it’s more about the adventurous spirit than cowboy cosplay. The shirt-jeans-boots combination works at any age. Alternatively, you could wear the shirt with a chic skirt and classic brown boots for a polished yet trendy look. I've often relied on a Canadian tuxedo for an easy outfit. I made this one stand out by choosing a Western-inspired cotton shirt instead of conventional denim on denim, adding a refreshing contrast to one of my usual outfits." — Mayhew
- Mango: Studded Snap-Up Western Shirt
- Levi's®: 501® '90s Straight Leg Ankle Jeans
- Petit Moments: Marisa Leather Belt
- Sam Edelman: James Pointed Toe Western Boot
On her go-to look for festival season: "This embraces the boho trend Gen Z is reviving for festival season. Prairie dresses, raffia accessories, and cowboy boots are subtly returning and are fun choices for dancing on stage. I’d wear this to an outdoor concert, a weekend flea market, or a beach getaway. It captures a carefree yet styled vibe. To make this outfit appealing to all ages, I suggest pairing one or two playful elements—like the boots or a woven bag—with more classic silhouettes. Balance is essential. A floral cotton dress with a raffia tote looks great on anyone." — Mayhew
- Dôen: Quinley Floral Organic Cotton Midi Dress
- Nina: Siggy Fringe Faux Raffia Tote
- Dolce Vita: Jessey Floral Pointed Toe Western Boot
