I Dislike Ballet Flats But Adore These Sophisticated Alternatives to Heels

      I’ve never really been a fan of ballet flats, regardless of whether they’re trending. It could be the rounded toe or the bow detail, but the flat-shoe style has never resonated with my personal style. I typically gravitate towards heels—kitten heels, stilettos, or block heels—because I find them dressier and more sophisticated, which are qualities I prioritize when choosing items for my wardrobe. I enjoy looking polished and well put together—what can I say? However, my feet don’t always appreciate the heels I prefer, no matter how often I wear or break them in. Living in New York City requires me to walk almost everywhere, and when I’m not walking, I’m navigating the stairs from the subway or my apartment. My feet are calling for something new, yet I can’t seem to overcome my longstanding aversion to ballet flats. Thankfully, I’ve discovered that there are various flat shoe options available. With brands like Zara, Reformation, Prada, and The Row embracing non-ballet flat styles such as slippers, mesh sock flats, strappy sandals, court shoes, jelly sandals, and pointy slingback flats, I’m finally ready to set my heels aside (at least a few days a week) and give flats a fair shot.
