(Image credit: Getty Images) At times, comfort is key. This seemed to be the approach taken by Margaret Qualley this evening as she attended the premiere of Honey Don't at the Cannes Film Festival, pairing flat Chanel shoes with her ethereal Chanel gown. Can you really blame her? Her stylish appearance technically adhered to the guidelines, yet the festival enforces a very strict dress code that requires "elegant" evening wear while prohibiting sneakers, sheer dresses, and excessively long trains. Additionally, failing to comply with these rules could result in being removed from the festival. No pressure at all!
The FAQ section on the official Cannes Film Festival website clearly outlines the dress code: "For the Grand Théâtre Lumière gala screenings, evening attire (long dress or tuxedo) is mandatory. You may also opt for a little black dress, a cocktail dress, a dark-colored pantsuit, a dressy top paired with black pants, elegant shoes or sandals (no sneakers), or a black or navy suit with a bow tie or dark tie. Large bags, backpacks, and tote bags are not allowed during gala screenings."
"For reasons of decency," the festival's website further explains, "nudity is not permitted on the red carpet or anywhere else at the festival. Oversized outfits, especially those with large trains that obstruct the smooth movement of guests and make seating in the theater difficult, are also not allowed. The festival's welcoming teams are required to deny red carpet access to those who do not follow these rules."
